Super Bowl Coach Drops Gargantuan Tip

2/5/2010 2:01 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Indianapolis Colts coach jim caldwellIndianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell isn't holding anything back for Super Bowl week -- including his wallet -- 'cause dude just dropped a monstrous tip after a coaches dinner in Florida this week.

TMZ has learned Coach Caldwell hit Grille 66 & Bar in Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday night where he and his crew gorged themselves on stone crabs, shrimp, oysters, and "several" orders of the surf and turf.

A source connected to the situation tells TMZ Caldwell and Co. racked up a $2,500 bill -- but left a $1,000 tip ... that's 40%.

TMZ spoke with restaurant manager Peter Brennen who wouldn't confirm the numbers but did admit he was "very generous."

We called the Colts for comment ... but apparently, they're a little too preoccupied at the moment.

Smart Guy, the bill wasn't 25,000 it was 2,500...so with that being said 1,000 would be a 40% tip. That was nice of him though.

A few years back, a friend and I were playing golf at a public course on the northwest side of Indy. Its a cheap course to play and therefore its usually packed. We ended up joining up with the twosome in front of us. After some time talking and getting to know them, I made a comment about how moving to Indy allowed them to root for an awesome football team. Well his wife then, in the sweetest tone imaginable, let me know that the Colts actually brought him to Indy to be their QB coach. We then spent the next 12 holes prying information from him about what its like to work with Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy. Man, Jim Caldwell and his wife are two of the nicest people I have ever met. I feel so lucky to have had that happen. I cant tell you how happy I am for him to being having the success that he is, not as a colts fan, but as a person who likes to see great people do well.

lol- this post is a freaking nutshell of why i hope the colts lose. there is some inherent feeling among colts fans that their team and fans are superior to every other team and their fans. i don't get it- if you're talking football skills, fine and dandy pump it up, but drop the stupid ignorant, ridiculous, non-classy bit of saying your freaking classy!
