Bob Barker Rammed at Sea -- Great Video

2/6/2010 3:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The anti-whaling boat Bob Barker was rammed on the high seas early this morning during a showdown with a vessel piloted by an allegedly illegal whaling crew.

According to the Sam Shepherd Conservation Society, the B.B. was blocking the shipway of a Japanese whaling fleet's factory ship when the collision occurred. One of the Japanese boats slammed into the Bob Barker, creating "a 3-foot long 4-inch deep gash in the mid starboard side."

No one was injured.

The boat was retrofitted thanks to a $5 million donation from Bob Barker, thus the name.

There is a moratorium on commercial whaling that was passed by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in 1982.
So what the Japanese are doing is illegalin killing these magnificent creatures.

Are you people blind? The YM3 is turning AWAY from the BB. The BB is the one that rammed the YM3 not the other way around

Sorry Tara, Christy and the rest of the SSCS supporters. The IWC moratorium doesn't apply to the whaling that the Japanese are doing. The Japanese whaling is perfectly legal.

And a ship ahead of you and on your starboard side has the right of way. So the Bob Barker was legally required to give way and avoid the Japanese vessel.

TFB they didn't sink it.
These are the high seas, folks. The SS (what an apropos acronym) has no business imposing their stupidity upon another nation.
What they are doing amounts to acts of war and piracy...attacking another vessel on the high seas.

I wonder if all the people that are congradulating these people for saving whales are also saying silent thank you prayers to Heaven each time a woman chooses not to kill her baby with an abortion, if you dont you simply are proving what Revelations says that at the end of times, Right will be wrong and wrong will be right... I think most people who are supporting these people would be fine with some of the men on the ships dying if an animal would be saved.

no need to be sorry ddpalmer, I don't agree with you. You are intitled to your opinion.
I will never agree that killing whales in the guise of research (in which the whales are tortured and slautered and packaged as food) is not in violation of the moratorium on commercial whaling by the IWC.

commercial whaling is illegal. But, there is always a but. If you are killing whales in the name of science, it's ok. so the Japanese try to kill at least 1,000 of them a year. funny thing is, the whale meat makes it to market. surprise, surprise. they are doing the slaughtering on their mfg. ship, and stored for the meat market. it's all a sham for the world to see. that's why the Sea Shepherd is always wanting to block the factory ship. Senseless slaughter of these creatures.

Japan, Norway and some other whaling nations are allowed to capture/kill certain quota of whales every year under different conditions by each country. In the case of Japan, they are allowed to hunt whales in open seas under the auspices of whaling treaty for research purpose, in exchange of giving up coastal whaling around Japan. "Research" because it is needed to establish if the whale population is increasing or decreasing. This can only be done by capturing certain minimum number of whales and check their "ear wax" and determine their age etc.

Japan isn't researching anything, they are fishing illegally and their whaling ships need to be sunk and their sailors drowned.
