Ryan O'Neal on Oscar Snub -- 'Poor Farrah'

3/8/2010 8:03 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan O'Neal is "confused as anyone" by Farrah Fawcett not making the In Memorium cut at The Oscars last night -- and he plans on writing a letter to the Academy protesting the snub.

Ryan O'Neal: Click to watch
Moments ago outside his Malibu home, Ryan told cameras he and Tatum were "shocked" by the Farrah omission -- saying maybe it happened because "she wasn't well known enough."

FYI -- 88% of TMZ voters agree Farrah should have been part of the tribute.

Farrah Fawcett would be very sad that people are blaming Michael Jackson for her exclusion from the In Memoriam list at the Oscars. She would say he deserved the honor because he hired and worked with and promoted many brilliant directors, he produced and starred in his short films; he loved filmmaking so much he financed, wrote, produced his own movie Moonwalker, his song Ben was nominated for an Academy Award and he sang it at the Oscars in 1973; his movie This Is It earned $25,000,000 at the box office last year and many people think it was snubbed for an Oscar nomination by the Academy. FF was not snubbed to make room for Michael Jackson. As the Academy why they left her out. It was not Michael Jackson's fault. On the imbd website it states he was a composer, writer, director, producer etc of films. So he deserved to be on the list.

Sorry,
Michael Jackson's This Is It made $250,000,000.
Farrah Fawcett is getting way more attention by being snubbed than she would have it they had put her picture on the Oscars.

I agree with #12
She was not a "MOVIE" star. She was a "TELEVISION" STAR. Period.

Last movie of Michael Jackson was "That Is It" so he was part of it.

Farrah and Bea are not in the movies.

In 1986 Fawcett appeared in the movie version of Extremities, which was also well-received by critics, and for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. She most definitely should have been mentioned in the memorial.

An award show where a bunch of disfunctional people give each other awards... what a bunch of liberal crap.

Outrageous! How dare they exclude Farrah!

I'd just like to add...although Demi Moore's dress was very pretty, it wasn't appropriate (too partyish) for announcing those stars that have passed away...and especially since her husband's ex fiance was one of them. Not very respectful of her.
Also, James Taylor sucks! A nice orchestra piece would have been more appropriate in honoring those stars who passed away.

Can't get over the fact that they didn't include Farrah. Just horrible!

OK

Farrah was a SUPERB ACTRESS.
1. She was an Academy Member for 40 years.
2. She presented at the Oscars at least 3 times.
3. She was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best actress as
a Spirit Award.
4. She made at least 16 movies.
5. She started career in movies and her last role was in a feature
film.
6. She made 2 films with Jeff Bridges who just won Best Actor.
7. She was a HUGE HOLLYWOOD SUCCESS STORY.
8. She was directed in films by John Houston, Alan J. Pakula
Robert Duvall and Robert Altman.
9. The Academy did this on purpose.
10. Farrah is a true Icon. A Major Star. She will never be forgotten like last night's awful show.
Farrah was bigger than the Oscars. She is one of the most beloved stars of ALL TIME.
SUCK IT ACADEMY - HARD!

Ryan Honey....it's the Academy of MOTION PICTURE Arts and Sciences. It is not the Academy of TELEVISION Arts and Sciences or the Academy for Recognition of Hollywood Residents.

If the Emmys forgot Farrah or the Grammys overlooked Michael Jackson, that would be farking rude.

Take a few steps back and catch your breath honey. No one was trying to diss her. It was not the right occasion.

Michael Jackson is a GENIUS talent. In Music ... not film.

The only reason Michael Jackson even kind of sort of had a movie was because he (sadly) died, and someone else then put together a bunch of rehearsal footage and called it a motion picture. Michael Jackson had nothing to do with that film - as great as it was (and it was great).

I like and respect Michael Jackson ... but if you think his appearance in an Oscar Award Ceremony even merited "not" including so much as a P.A. from Avatar, then you are delusional.

I can't stomach this fake commenting on anything concerning Ms. Fawcett. He sucked her bones dry while she was alive. Flirt with your daughter at her funeral? Puke is not a strong enough word for this bum.

I am glad that they put Michael Jackson in the tribute. He deserved it, and would have been proud. I am sad they left Farrah out of the tribute. I was watching, and I kept waiting for her photo, and James Taylor finished singing and still no photo of Farrah. I think the academy ought to release a statement apoligizing to the family and fans of Farah, and Bea and all the others they left out.
