The Oscars Produce BS Farrah Fawcett Excuse

3/9/2010 8:17 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Farrah Fawcett and Michael JacksonThe people behind the Academy Awards claim they left Farrah Fawcett out of the Oscars In Memoriam montage this year because she was better known as a TV star -- which begs the question, how the hell did Michael Jackson make the cut?!?!

Bruce Davis
-- the executive director of the film academy -- told the Associated Press both Fawcett and Gene Berry were more famous for their "remarkable television work" and would therefore be more appropriately honored at the Emmys.

So by that logic, Michael Jackson would probably be more appropriately honored at the Grammys right? Oh wait, he was!! Kinda contradicts your point, huh Bruce?

For the record -- Davis had no excuse for blowing off Bea Arthur and Captain Lou Albano, who starred in the theatrical masterpiece "Body Slam" back in 1986.

Michael Jackson at the Oscars makes no sense. The Academy was too busy watching movies, as it's just a perfect error in judgment to consider dead neurotic child molesters who were NEVER in movies, and a gross error to exclude Farrah Fawcett.

Well, Michael was in The Wiz, Moonwalker, Captain EO and had a cameo in MIB2 (No, I'm not justifying it, I think Farrah was overlooked and they're now just backpedaling)

Oh, forgot to add...Ryan O Neal needs to quit bitching...at least FF was added to TMZ's RIP section right away...wasn't MJ added to it like 7 months AFTER he was killed?? And yet they both died the same day. There was a huge stink about that at several website message boards for 7 months but it took those 7 months to correct it. So in 12 months the Oscars can add FF to their list.

7. I was very disappointed that they didn't mention Farrah at the ocsars, I was even in shock & thought maybe they did & I had missed it.
but what I don't understand is why do u feel the need to drag Michael Jackson's name into everything, is it because it gives you higher ratings.

Michael did few movies & he's an artist that transcended different boundaries of audio visual art. The Thriller video, which is more like a short movie as well as the Bad video (directed by Martin Scorses are testaments to his cinematic talent). Thriller is the first music video ever to make the Congress Library's Archive.

so for the love of cheese cake, get off of Michael's back already.

Michael was in "The Wiz" which was in theatres in the late 70's or early 80's (cant remember). He was the scarecrow. He was also in Men in Black II. The video Thriller and Ghost would probably be considered short films even though they were not on the silver screen.

The academy is correct. Farrah was a tv star and should be mentioned at the Emmys because that is like the oscars for tv shows. Ryan should know that too.

I did not see it, but, did they mention any other tv stars? If they did, then they should have mentioned her because she is a lot more known for her television work then Michael is for the big screen.

It was reported that AMPAS and their poor choice of executive producers supposedly picked 30 out of more than 100 industry passing's to memorialize. What a poor decision to posture that moronic schtick with Ben Stiller that wasn't funny, but instead a waste of expensive media time on such a stupid skit that most people didn't get. Then they decide to cut the speech acceptance time of the producers of one of the world's most horrific tragedies "The Cove," but allowed cup-run-ith over with narcissistic actor celebrity speeches of such little importance or relevance. Farrah deserved to be included in the memoriam; shame on AMPAS - what nonsense!

Yes Farrah should have been included, but I don't think it's right to have such disrespect for Michael just to prove this point-they should have both been included, it's not MJ's fault he's one of the most famous men ever or that farrah did'nt get included-leave him out of it, he did "The Wiz" and most of his videos are in the film institute I don't think it should be about one or the other they should both be included.

Are you all insane? Michael Jackson was a cultural PHENOMENON like Elvis and the Beatles. OF COURSE they will mention him in the year he died. He will still be remembered in 50 years for God's sake. Will FF? NO.

He also starred in a Moonwalker which was, URGH, A MOVIE!

Michael sang The Oscar nominated song "Ben" & perform the song at the academy awards.

Michael did the story book album for E.T.

Michael Jackson was the first Black artist to have his Music video shown on Mtv, who back then didn't play black videos.

Most of all Michael's songs are featured in a number of films. over all his contributions to the film industry with his short films. So no, it's more like what the hell is up with you TMZ! I don't like that Farrah Fawcett was left out but how the hell can you blame Michael Jackson?!

For the love of pete - the IN MEMORIUM montage at the Oscars is not SOLEY for actors. STOP ASSUMING Michael Jackson was put there because he physically appeared in films. He was put there for his overall contribution to movie making which includes songs on more than two dozen soundtracks. If you can explain to me WHAT Farrah's "SIGNIFICANT" contribution to FILMS was - without using The Burning Bed (TV movie, brilliant, but doesn't count), Cannonball Run (party movie, all you had to do to be in it was be popular or a friend of Burt's) or Logan's Run (sci-fi movie and the Academy will almost never go beyond tech or effect awards for those) or the fact she was simply a member of the Academy - I might agree with you.

Come on, I dare you. PROVE she deserved to be there.
