Corey Haim/Andrew Koenig Connection

3/11/2010 11:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

In an ironic twist of fate, Corey Haim was fired from a movie in late 2008 because of an alleged drug issue -- a movie that also starred recently deceased actor Andrew Koenig.

Corey Haim/Andrew Koenig

Haim was cast as one of the leads in a movie called "DaZe." Executive producer Miller Uwanawich tells TMZ, "Corey's drug problem became too much of a problem" and he was fired as a result.

According to Miller, Corey would show up for table reads and be "all over the place, definitely showing signs of being on drugs."

Miller says he went to Corey's home a few times to try and help him with the apparent drug problem, but was unsuccessful. A.J. Llamas was recast in Corey's role.

It's also the last movie in which Andrew Koenig -- the "Growing Pains" star who committed suicide last month -- appeared.

How exactly is this "ironic"? One died of suicide by hanging; the other apparently via an accidental overdose

TMZ lacks class. The man has passed, and you imply drug overdose as a cause of death and focus on his demons. Why not simply celebrate the man's achievements over the years? Even though Haim has not made a significant presence in the industry recently, he has still accomplished more than any of the leaches at TMZ who feed off of the stars.

Your fame and fortune comes from the work of others. It's disgusting that TMZ and the like are even considered relevant.

they all were washed up minor stars and couldnt handle the umm pressure of daily living because they no longer were on anyones radar except bill collectors and druggies..get with it people..the world is better off without these losersssss.how ironic is that.I am a star and I handle it well, all the autograph seekers and groupies..its just something us stars have to accept and deal with.its tough but I maintain myself by smoking pot.

Number #5
You are missing the obvious here- the article states he was tested for and was clean on ILLEGAL drug use.

Haim's battle has always been with prescription drugs. There were 4 bottles of prescription pills in his name found at the scene- so he wasn't drug free.

What sort of bubble in lollipop land are you living in?

This isn't someone who died of natural causes- this is a child star who couldn't come to terms with his fleeting fame. This is a man who lacked the guidance as a young adult to keep him drug free instead of running wild.

If any meaning can come from his death, it won't be done from hiding from the truth.

i don't think he committed suicide; i think it was an accident. if he was helping his ailing mom, he was not thinking is suicide, it just doesn't connect.

Corey was a drug addict, Andrew was not, and they are not even remotely in the same category other than childhood acting experiences. Haim was given chance after chance and threw it all away. He never would take responsibility for his own actions and blamed the entire world for his failures. I understand addiction, bu there also comes a time when you have to stop blaming others and take responsibility. I feel sorry for his poor mother.

Is this an example of six degrees of separation?

Very sad. It's more of coincidence. Do any of your editors have a journalism degree? I think not, if they do they probably got them online.

Haim's first role was actually one of my favorite movies in high school and still is a good movie today. While this move isn't very well known and wasn't a a main role for him. For being one of his first movies, he actually got a lot of screen time and I just knew he had 'it' The movie is called Firstborn.
He was also in another one of my favorite teen movies called Secret Admirer. While this is a more known movie than Firstborn because of
C Thomas Howell, he didn't get as much screen time as Firstborn.
I just wanted to mention these two movies, especially Firstborn, in his honor because these two never get brought up when mentioning him.
Go to IMDB and see how many movies he was working on...
One of my favorite movies of all time is The Lost Boys, so this is my favorite movie that he was in. What's sad though about this movie is that he says this is the first time he tried drugs.
We were talking last night how talented he was, and what could have been for him as an adult if the evil drugs had not taken him over.

This guy, named Miller. He is a club owner. A very shady one at that. I would not be surprised if Miller was the one who actually GAVE Haim the drugs.

Something else about the movie Firstborn since there's been a lot of talk about Robert Downey Jr finally cleaning up his life and coming back very strong.
Firstborn was also his first main movie too, even though it wasn't a lot of screen time.
Not that it means much, I was just thinking how Firstborn was both Haim and Downey's first movie.
All of this just reminded me how this lesser knows movie was a favorite of mine in high school.

Some of these poor guys who are hooked on drugs should just give up the high they're seeking from acceptance in Hollywood and return to reality.
Having Your identity and self worth invested in whether or not You can make it/recapture it in Hollywood while struggling with drug addiction is a formula for a death spiral.
Being surrounded by people like fellow former stars who are also delusional and living vicariously through other celebrities made up identities doesn't help either (not naming names here).
