Michael Jackson Estate

Inks Record,

Record Deal

3/16/2010 9:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0630_mj_exd_tmz_06-1TMZ has confirmed the Michael Jackson estate has signed the biggest deal ever in music -- worth up to $250 million with a guarantee of $200 million.

The estate made the deal with Sony Music Entertainment -- the contract is for 10 projects over seven years.

One album will debut in November, which contains never-before released recordings. We're told Jackson left enough material for at least three albums of fresh material.

A source tells TMZ the royalty rate on foreign sales is the key to the deal -- and 2/3 of the sales of MJ records traditionally have been outside the U.S.

And we're told Sony gets a two-year extension for the right to distribute the Michael Jackson catalog -- to 2017.

The deal has nothing to do with The Beatles' catalog -- it's all about MJ original recordings.

The agreement was brokered by John Branca and John McClain, executors of the MJ estate.

From where they left so many new songs?
Who stole things from the residence on the 25th?
Because Branca does what Michael wanted and does not
what sony always wanted?
Who is really Branca?

An excerpt from the New York Times:

"It also allows Sony and the estate to collaborate on a wide range of lucrative licensing arrangements, like the use of Jackson music for films, television and stage shows and lines of memorabilia that will be limited only by the imagination of the estate and the demand of a hungry worldwide market".

So, it looks like Sony will be guaranteed a share of MJ's money, no matter how u look at it (MJ's music for films, TV, stage shows, memorabilia - this covers a lot). LOL.

Hmmm...a 7 year deal huh? "And we're told Sony gets a two-year extension for the right to distribute the Michael Jackson catalog -- to 2017". Either that is one major typo, or this deal was signed in 2008. Piece by piece he will be revealed.

It was my understanding that Michaels catalog did NOT revert back to him for a few more years.

I would have to look it up but I think part of it was from his original contract with SONY and the rest could be because of debt...Sony could have foreclosed a long time ago on his loans he took out against the catalog, but they knew they would get such a backlash from Michaels fans if they did that. So i believe that is the reason why the contract deal was extended...When i find it I will post it for you but I believe this is the jist of it...

I bet his much hyped Hurricane Katrina "relief song" still won't be released. You can't release something that never existed in the first place.
