Dr. Murray's Defense - Jackson Killed Himself

4/4/2010 4:59 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned Dr. Conrad Murray's legal defense is that Michael Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of Propofol.

Multiple sources familiar with the strategy tell TMZ the defense argument goes like this:

- At around 10:50 AM, Dr. Murray gave Jackson 25 mg of Propofol from a 20 ml bottle -- that's only about 1/8 of the bottle.

- The dose Dr. Murray administered would keep someone asleep for only 5 to 10 minutes, But the Propofol, along with the Ativan and Versed that was already in MJ's system, had a synergistic effect that put Jackson to sleep for a longer period of time.

- For the next hour, Dr. Murray stayed in the room and was on the phone for much of the time. Dr. Murray didn't leave the room to make the calls because MJ liked activity in the room, regularly sleeping with the lights on and cartoons blaring on the TV.

- At around noon, Dr. Murray left the room for approximately two minutes to go to the bathroom. While he was gone, the defense believes Jackson suddenly awakened and was frustrated he had spent nearly 9 hours trying in vain to sleep. The defense theory -- Jackson took the 20 ml bottle of Propofol and self-injected the remaining contents through the IV, causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.

- Dr. Murray walked back in the room and saw Jackson with his eyes open and pupils dilated. Dr. Murray dropped the phone (he was speaking with his girlfriend) and began administering CPR.

The defense will argue Michael Jackson was a long-time Propofol addict -- something TMZ first reported shortly after the singer's death. As one source said, Jackson liked the sensation of Propofol being administered by IV, adding, "Michael liked to push it."

L.A. County Coroner's investigators took a picture in the room, showing an empty Propofol bottle on the floor, underneath the nightstand by Jackson's bed. The defense will argue Jackson grabbed the bottle from the nightstand, injected himself and then dropped the bottle.

Remember, law enforcement believes Dr. Murray hid bottles of Propofol before paramedics arrived. The defense will argue ... if Dr. Murray was really hiding Propofol, he would have removed the empty bottle under the nightstand that caused Jackson's death.

Ed Chernoff, Murray's attorney, could not be reached for comment.

Ok - this 'doctor' who claims he knew Jackson was a Propofol addict (which would mean he would need higher and higher doses to get any effect), claims he gave the already compromised man a dose which would put a normal person to sleep for five to ten minutes - then sat in the room chatting with his girlfriend for two hours while Jackson apparently slept - then went into the bathroom for two minutes, which was the exact moment Jackson awoke and, frustrated that he had not slept for nine hours (even though the doc claims he was asleep for the two hours he chatted with the girlfriend), leaving an addict alone with the drug and the means to administer it, which he claims Jackson did in those exact two minutes?

Plausible? Perhaps - but only if the 'doctor' was an astonishingly stupid and reckless man with the kind of bad timing usually only reserved for young blondes in Aruba.

Dear Doctor Murray,

I guess Michael stuck the needle in himself, and paid you big buck to sit by his bedside so he could commit suicide -- WITH HIS BELOVED CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE.

ROT IN HELL YOU LYING BASTARD.

It is one of coroners basic, fundamental tasks to determine: suicide or administerd by another. By now the blogs are too long
and too much squible to follow up in any rational way.
Look up dr Harold Shipman on Wiki to see a heavy warning about trusting a dr´s bedside manner too good to be true. That happened in UK, not that many years ago. Noway does murray belong in that category. murray´s main motive was money ,not the even sicker one of Harold Shipman

What a pathetic defense! His duty as attending physician was to stay in the room as long as the controlled substance was in use --- and he admits that he didn't. He also admits that he knew that MJ was addicted to a lethal substance that he was administering.

Let's face it. This MD was a scrip MD and earned very good money off of MJ's addictions and gross mental instability. He also may very well have been the same MD who addicted MJ to some of these meds.

Methinks that the good doctor should plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter, that is if the prosecution lets him. When he get out, he can move to some third world country where he can practice meatball medicine.

He was murdered. If the defense is believed how does this affect his life insurance or insurance with AEG? I am sure this is a key factor worth considering and making newsworthy.

Does anyone really believe Michael, a responsible parent, and well aware of the dangers of this drug - does anyone really believe he would self-administer this drug while alone with no one in sight, no one beside him to monitor his vitals?

Which do you think is healthier to stay awake or keep alert if you absolutely had to take something?

Coca-cola or prescription/narcotic drugs?

The doctor did all he could to save MJ, and deal with his insanities...The money earned by the doctor for services rendered, and who rendered to, is always open for out of ordinary circumstances...It is without a doubt, Micheals entire family are so disfunctional, each member would be a full time job for a schrink...

they keep saying that michael like the feeling that he gets from this drug. even tmz should be ashamed to repeat this. if one is out you do not feel so...he is not getting a high from it he just try to get some rest. and for the cola, kids drink lots of coco cola. If michael drink a cola its a crime, if he is slim, its a crime any thing he does they find something bad to say about it.

these people should keep onethibg in mind, michael use medication for sleeping and pain relief. we all need sleep, and so did michael. he was in a lot of physical pain and by god he need relief from it sometime.
has one person said. he did not offer to pay so much money to this man that call himself a dr. so that he coud kill himself. its greed why murry killed michael. the pay was enough for him to have a nurse or two to assist him. and he did not know what he is doing He sound silly saying things like that. i dont think any jury will buy that.
they are forgetting that people listen to all the experts and know by how this drug works. i had three operations and when come out from under this drug you are giddy someone have to help you. so michael was incapable to inject himself. In an inter michael gave to reporter in 1997. he said have mercy for i have been bleeding a long time now.
to TMZ and the likes. He you all took every thing from him. you put a good person in an early grave.

Seems that Murry's lawyers are insane using this as an argument! Of course Michael isn't around to defend himself so how convenient! Murry's lawyers have changed the time line and it is a shamble of justice on their part as far as I am concerned! Murry should have never ever given profofol (sp) and there Michael was asleep when Dr. Murry took his two minute pee and Lo and behold Michael woke up (not even groggy from all those meds mind you) and filled his own IV with more meds and he didn't even spill it or nuthin'! I'm not even a first year law-student and I can see through this scam already!
