He is a wonderful man. About 20 years ago when I was in college, I was in a book store and, unbeknownst to me, a creepy guy was trailing me. Gene Wilder was in the store and saw what was happening and came over and stopped the guy and had him removed from the store, and stuck around to be sure the guy was gone. Not a lot of people would have gotten involved...
