'American Idol' Front-Runner Almost Quit

4/16/2010 1:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned "American Idol" contestant Crystal Bowersox threw in the towel a little more than two weeks ago and was walking off the show, when Ryan Seacrest did some fast-talking and changed her mind.

cystal bowersox and ryan seacrest
It went down in a parking lot after an "A.I." show.  In front of several people, Crystal told Ryan she couldn't handle the competition.... she said she hated the attention and said to Seacrest, "What's the point?"

Crystal said she was going back to Ohio to be with her family, whom she missed terribly.

Ryan told Crystal that being on "Idol" was like starting a business, and if she won she'd get a recording contract and become a millionaire.

Seacrest sealed the deal by telling her, "The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house.  You can buy your mom a house."

Seacrest out ... Crystal, not out.

This story is not even true. This is all to get you not to vote for Crystal....

I think that she has a good chance to win, but I wish someone would
tell her to do something with her hair. I think she could be a prettier woman/girl with she looked more polished and neater.

Ithink what Ryan Seacrest did was admirable!!! When the pressure gets to you sometimes you want to just throw in the towel! I feel that on my job all the time.
Ryan talked to her so she would not do something that she would regret!
Way to go RYAN!!!!

I'm a big fan of Crystal's and wish her years of success after American Idol, but she honestly needs to toughen up to make it in the music industry.

I love how they cleaned her teeth after she made it into the top 16, they were like well if she's going home were not going to clean her teeth, but if she stays we'll fix em up for her. Nice job buttersworth..

I think she's got loads of talent and looks just fine! (It's not a beauty contest anyway.) The whole experience has to be so very stressfull. Thanks to Ryan for encouraging her to stay. She's got a real shot at winning the whole thing.

Quote: 15. this is soo phoney,so now when she wins it will make it all the more dramtic...sounds like a last gasp from a show on the decline....once whats his name leaves the show is done....

Right? It may be that AI is on the decline, but I have to say I fail to see his positive contribution right now.

Thank God for Ryan. Crystal (and maybe Lee) is the only reason that I'm watching AI anymore. She is so amazing and that would've been devastating to AI and to the viewers and to her and her family if she had walked off--what a waste that woulda been! STAY TIL THE END, CRYSTAL. YOU ARE ALREADY THE AMERICAN IDOL OF THE SEASON. EVEN IF YOU DON'T WIN, YOU WILL BE A SUCCESS.....GUARANTEED

A trampoline is a device consisting of a piece of taut, strong fabric stretched over a steel frame using many coiled springs. People bounce on trampolines for recreational and competitive purposes.

The fabric on which users bounce (commonly known as the 'bounce mat' or 'trampoline bed') is not elastic in itself; the elasticity is provided by the springs which connect it to the frame.

There are two generic types of trampoline, competitive and recreational.

The frame of a competitive trampoline is made of steel and can be made to fold up for transportation to competition venues. The trampoline bed is rectangular 428 cm (approx. 14 feet) by 214 cm (approx. 7 feet) in size[6] fitted into the 520 cm x 305 cm (17' x 10') frame with around 110 steel springs (the actual number may vary by manufacturer). The bed is made of a strong fabric, although this is not itself elastic; the elasticity is provided only by the springs. The fabric can be woven from webbing, which is the most commonly used material. However, in the 2007 World Championships held in Quebec City, a Ross (or "Two-String") bed, woven from individual thin strings, was used. This type of bed gives a little extra height to the rebound.

Recreational trampolines are less sturdily constructed than competitive ones and their springs are less strong. They may be of various shapes, though most are circular, octagonal or rectangular. The fabric is usually a waterproof canvas or woven polypropylene material.

As with competitive trampolines, recreational trampolines are usually made using coiled steel springs to provide the rebounding force. New Zealander Dr. Keith Vivian Alexander of the University of Canterbury designed a trampoline that replaces the springs with cantilevered pultruded fibreglass rods to provide the rebounding force. This spring-free design allows the steel jumping frame to be placed below the jumping plane, ostensibly improving the user's safety.

The Train!

i get that it is possible to read his actions as an effort to help the show and ultimately enable him to continue to make money off of it. but i also agree with others that it's possible he was acting in her best interests. sometimes people make decisions in the heat of the moment that they regret later. it would be truly awful if she left and, a year later, looked back and wondered, "what if?" my only problem is that his reasons revolve around making money, rather than the opportunity she has to become a professional recording and touring artist. not every talented person gets that shot.

She needs to go home then and quit wasting our time, she should have never auditioned....she is not going to win anyway.

Bowerstinks totally gets on my nerves. Yes, the girl can sing, but seriously, would it hurt to get a makeover and to actually smile (after getting her teeth fixed, of course). She looks miserable and I couldn't ever see her actually making it in the business as a successful artist.
