Kevin Costner

'Field of Dreams' Offer

5/17/2010 4:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned Kevin Costner was privately offered first dibs to buy the famous corn-filled property where he made "Field of Dreams" -- but Kevin turned it down.

kevin-costner-exThe owners of the 193-acre Iowa farm put the legendary field up for sale this week for $5.4 million -- but before it was offered to the public, we're told it was offered to Kevin ... twice!

According to former major league pitcher Ken Sanders -- the guy overseeing the sale -- Kevin got a crack at the place once last year, but decided to pass.  The owners reached out to KC again earlier this week ... but the actor still didn't seem willing to go the distance.

A rep for Costner didn't comment.

ghost player

The Field of Dreams has been a big part of my life. It's three miles away from my home and shop. I've produced a do***entary about the baseball players from the movie called "Ghost Player Relive the Magic" and published a book called "Travels with Ghosts and Other Tales"
The field allowed me a second chance to live my dreams from long ago.
Dreams can come true. Hope all the best for this wonderful piece of Americana.

Field of dreams allright.

It's a nice place granted and the movie was wonderful, an all time classic.

Why do people think celebs take stupid pills when it comes to buying or selling real estate?

The property is worth $3,000 TO $5,000 an acre with a little more for the house and a novelty premium for the movie being shot on it.

I have sold lots of property that has been in some sort of a movie at auction, never got a premium because of the movie shoot.

the owners were dreaming a crack pipe dream or a huge profit from a celeb.

They forgot that Kostner is a smart man...
