Bret Michaels

Hospitalized for Heart Problems

5/20/2010 6:40 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Bret MichaelsBret Michaels was rushed back to the hospital this week where doctors claim they found a "hole in the heart."

According to Bret's rep, the singer was complaining about "numbness on the left side of his body, predominately his face and hands."

After a series of tests, doctors concluded that Michaels had suffered a "Transient Ischemic Attack -- more commonly referred to as a "warning stroke."

During the tests, the doctors say they found that Bret had a Patent Forum Ovale -- which is essentially a hole in the heart.

Doctors say Bret's condition is "operable and treatable." The docs also don't believe the "warning stroke" is related to Bret's brain hemorrhage.

Bret will be treated with outpatient care -- which includes a daily injection of a blood thinner.

Bret's rep also notes that the singer is in "good spirits, great medical hands and is positive and hopeful that everything is going to be OK."

The rep concludes, "He is up, walking, talking, continuing his daily rehab and very happy to be alive but he has made it clear he is sick and tired of being in the hospital and is ready to rock again."

first, a patent foramen ovale is a leftover from fetal circulation (which is essentially reversed) between the left and right atria (top chambers of the heart) second, there is no connection between an aneurysm and a PFO. The blood thinners he is on is most likely not heparin and surely not coumadin, most likely fragmin or arixtra or lovenox (low-molecular weight heparins). third, there is surely no connection between appendicitis and any of these ailments...
just bad luck more than anything. take it from a nurse.

Bret c'mon, do you need 100 TMZ followers to tell you to chill?

Marry the girlfriend and take a long, 'healthy' vacation with your family.

You have nothing to prove to no one.

Bsd genetics, not bad luck.
Brett, don't be stubborn. You're too weak & screwed up to perform.
You don't want to pass away like Michael Jackson did. He wasn't even gravely ill.
You need to get healthy.

You are right, jeff, I found this statement from his doctor-
“"There is no doubt that the positive Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) is devastating news to Bret and his family. The good news is that it is operable and treatable and we think we may have diagnosed the problem that caused the Transient Ischemic Attach (TIA) or warning stroke; however we feel it is highly unlikely this is connected to the brain hemorrhage he suffered just a few weeks earlier.
Further tests will be conducted throughout the week and I will have more information next week as to how this Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) will be treated. For now, Bret will be treated with outpatient care which includes a daily injection of Lovenox (a blood thinner to reduce the chance of blood clots) and blood tests."

Bret's rep says- "He is up, walking, talking, continuing his daily rehab and very happy to be alive but he has made it clear he is sick and tired of being in the hospital and is ready to rock again."

Please take it easy, Bret!

'well 3rd time is a charm!' They say bouts of 'good' luck run in 3's...perhaps this is God's way of telling Bret that it's time for him to step off the fame-wagon and give someone else a ride!

And -also maybe God found out Bret treated many nice people like trash in his younger days- ya never know!

A major brain bleed now a stroke is very bad news. The heart hole can be fixed bit Brett being in his 40s and type 1 diabetic may have severe arteriolosclerosis. This is most often found in much older folks.
