Gary Coleman Divorced from Shannon Price

6/2/2010 6:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned Gary Coleman divorced Shannon Price nearly two years ago ... raising issues about her authority to make final medical decisions on Gary's behalf.

Gary's divorce lawyer, Randy Kester, tells TMZ the couple divorced on August 12, 2008, and as far as he knows they never remarried.

Kester does not know if Price had a power of attorney to make medical decisions.

A hospital official tells TMZ they have "become aware he may not have been married to her."  But the official said she was portraying herself as Gary's wife and they didn't require further proof.

The official did not say if Shannon had a power of attorney.

WHILE I AGREE THE OCCURRENCE ITSELF IS SUSPICIOUS, I DON'T THINK THE HOSPITAL WOULD LET ANYONE "PULL THE PLUG" IF HE HAD ANY CHANCE WHATSOEVER OF SURVIVAL, EVEN IF HIS "WIFE" ASKED THEM TOO. I'M SURE THE DOCTORS ARE THE ONES THAT ADVISED THE DECISION NEEDED TO BE MADE HOWEVER, I DO AGREE THAT THE ACTUAL EVENT OF HIS "FALL" SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. IF THEY INDEED WERE DIVORCED AND SHE PORTRAYED HERSELF TO THE HOSPITAL AS BEING HIS WIFE, SHE HAS COMMITTED A CRIMINAL ACT. THAT IN ITSELF IS REASON ENOUGH TO INVESTIAGE HIS "ACCIDENT" FURTHER. THE PUZZLING THING IS, WHY WOULD SHE WANT HIM GONE? IT'S NOT LIKE HE HAD ANY $$$$ SHE WOULD INHERIT--UNLESS THERE IS SOMETHING WE DON'T KNOW. I WOULD CHECK FOR A LIFE INSURANCE POLICY PRONTO!

I remember reading about the divorce a couple of years ago, and I am sure I never read about a remarriage. Even if he was brain dead or moribund, doctors need the consent of the next of kin as a rule to turn off the life support, otherwise they have to wait till the actual death occurs. A divorced wife will not qualify as the next of kin, unless she still had the power of attorney.

OK someone should lock her up if she is not really married to him. If she wasn't married to him, she knew she wasn't so what was the big hurry to pull the plug? Something to hide maybe? Lock her up for pulling the plug wothout authority.

NOT a good thing for the hospital to have done. Now watch the lawsuits pile up.

I have to say it seemed w-a-y too fast for her to have given the permission to unplug him

Was there an autopsy? Did he die from a fall or a hit to the head?

Any bets those skanky adoptive parents of his will see money in a lawsuit against the hospital? He was just a money train to them from the get-go, why change now?

SYLVI212 # 49 they are only Dr.s not Gods! Gary coleman could have made a complete turn around. He could have totally recovered, nevertheless, she doesn't notify his parents or other relative. THE BI-ATCH COULD OF AT LEAST ALLOWED SOME OF THE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY TO COME OVER & SAY THEIR GOOD BYE'S! SOMETHING IS DEFINATELY NOT RIGHT WITH THIS PICTURE. IF THAT WAS MY FAMILY THAT SHE DID THAT TO, I'D KNOCK HER STRAIGHT INTO NEXT WEEK. SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE'S RETARDED!

Under Utah State Law Section 30-1-4.5 If Gary and Shannon lived together as husband and wife or exhbitied themselves to others as poroting to be husband and wife they are a "common law marriage". It appears she introduced herself to the Officer as Gary's wife, he didn't object and this lead the Officer to beleive they were married. Sorry, but it appears they were living a "Utah Common Law Marriage" so she could pull the plug on him. Now you know why California doesn't recognize Common Law Marriages

I think the hospital should cover all their bases when removal of life support is involved. This looks very bad for them and you'd think there could be a lawsuit involved if his parents choose to go that route.

Wow, this is some hospital. Strangers can just walk in and remove patients from life support. For starters, how is it possible for Gary to fall and strike the back of his head with enough force to kill himself? Did he fall off the roof? Something here isn't right.

Sad sad

I was wondering wth. If she had any involvement it could be she just wanted him gone so he couldn't testify she pushed him. Not saying she did but ..... good lord that's just sad. Weren't they violent with each other in the past? I'm just wondering how you slip so hard that you kill yourself. I mean he was a little guy. Personally, I would have given him some more time. I think most normal people would have. Some times doctors are wrong you know.

Rolex sucks

It doesn't take a genius to figure out Gary's ex bashed him in the head with a blunt object and posed at the hospital as his wife so she could pull the plug = no witness no crime.
