UCLA Legend John Wooden Dies

6/4/2010 11:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

John Wooden, the most successful basketball coach in NCAA history, died of natural causes today ... he was 99 years old.

Wooden won 10 national championships at UCLA in the '60s and '70s -- more than earning his legendary nickname, the Wizard of Westwood.

University officials said Wooden died at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he had been hospitalized since last week.

Wooden coached future Hall of Fame players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton -- and his Bruins teams are recognized as one of sport's greatest dynasties.  He won 7 NCAA Championships in a row from 1967 to 1973.

The Wizard is in the Hall of Fame as a player and a coach.

A lot of people won't be living, just like the marine wild life, if we don't step up and take care of "SPILL IN THE GULF." As soon as the "toxic oil" blows in from the wild storms, the cities will be covered in "toxic oil." You see the bird covered, picture humans! Where are the celebrities? Strong website that needs to help!

No body is shocked he is gone, but we're sad he is. He is a great man who touched and influenced the lives of more people than will ever know you existed when your time comes. Please show some respect.

RIP Coach. Thank you for the lessons you taught not only your players, but all of us.

Trainwrecks

you left a legacy not only in basketball but also in courage, faith, integrity, values, and compassion that we probably won't ever see again in that balance in our lifetimes.

25 years after her passing, at least you are united with Nellie again.

a true legend was lost today and the world has lost one more of the good guys.

RIP Coach Wooden. We will miss you and thank you for blessing us as long as you did while you were here.

Lived 99 years (you don't get there poppin' Adderall and eye-ballin' Vodka, kids), much achieved in life, and a legacy that will be remembered and respected for years to come. RIP John Wooden. I have no doubt you were at peace in your heart and mind as the end was nearing. Too bad so many young people look up to celebutards morbidly courting the pearly gates with no accomplishments other than behaving badly enough to get a mention in the tabloids. He was a man of a greater era.

I'm not religious, but I, truly, hope there's a team up above anxiously waiting for him to float up with clipboard and whistle in hand.

I hate farts

My father was a UCLA student back in the late 1960...'s. When he would see John Wooden on campus, Dad would say "Good day, Coach" and Mr. Wooden would always nod his head and say "Good day to you too, son. Do your best today". Always polite and wanting everyone to always give their best.

RIP Sir.

You were a great man. Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success is a foundation we should all live our lives by. Coach Wooden would have shown a clown like Kobe Bryant the door or at least he would have taught him a thing or two about the real world. Kobe's selfishnes, narcissism, immature and babyish behavior would never have been tolerated by the great Mr. Wooden. But then again, Kobe would never have bothered to waste his time playing at UCLA and getting a college education. Why waste your time in college when you can make millions right out of high school, marry a high school dropout, commit rape, buy your wife a joke of a "don't leave me ring" and then have to pay over $200,000 to keep the abused maid from sueing your low class wife and yourself?

People of Mr. Wooden's quality and integrity are sadly few and far between in our vapid, materialistic, celebutard culture today.
