Oklahoma State Next to Jump to Pac-10

6/10/2010 1:54 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are blazing a trail to the Pacific-10 Conference ... according to a source -- and leaving the future of the Big 12 Conference in serious jeopardy.

A source in the OK State athletic department tells TMZ Sports the move is a "done deal." The Pac-10 just made it official that Colorado is also jumping off the Big 12 ship.

We're told it's "just a matter of time" before the OK State announcement is also made. It's been rumored that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M will also join the new super conference.  Nebraska, it's widely believed, will go to the Big 10.

As for why this is all going down -- our source says "everyone wants a playoff system ... and this is the first step toward doing it."

The rumors are spilling everywhere.
There is no way OSU or OU are heading to the SEC. The money is just too damn huge out west
The Texas and Oklahoma teams will be going west to at the very least double their TV money. The Big IIX was never a level playing field when it came down to dollars. No wonder Nebraska is leaving.

OSU is not a Top tier school. But it IS a good solid program on the move with some pretty impressive financial backing to help pave the way.

And I have a feeling that A&M are heading East...just a hunch.

Lol. If (and it's a big if) Oklahoma State left, it would ruin the big 12. If OSU left, OU would certainly follow and Texas wouldn't be far behind. People need to understand that these universities are linked one way or another whether its by a long standing rivalry or by dollars and cents. Same would be said about OU. If they left, OSU and Texas would follow. It's not rocket surgery.
