Gary Coleman

Don't Pull the Plug on Me!

6/14/2010 5:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has obtained legal documents signed by Gary Coleman in 2006 in which the actor specifically directed that he did not want anyone to pull the plug on him ... if he was ever in that situation.

Gary Coleman
The documents were ironically filed by Shannon Price -- Gary's ex-wife -- the person who authorized doctors to take Gary off life support last month. Price has filed the docs in an effort to be granted control over the disposition of Gary's body.

Among the documents filed today by Shannon is a health care power of attorney which Gary filled out in 2006.  Under the heading "Instructions for Health Care" -- Gary checked a box  titled "Choice to Prolong Life" which states, "I want my life to be prolonged as long as possible within the limits of generally accepted health care standards."

The other option Gary had -- "Choice Not to Prolong Life" -- was left unchecked.

In the docs, Shannon explains her decision to end Gary's life saying she was "forced" to pull the plug. She does not explain why she felt forced.

Either the authorities must look into this, including the cir***stances of just how he injured himself and why the hospital allowed Price to make the decision, because she was "forced" to (by whom?).

Or Gary's friend, former manager and now executor Dion Mial and/or Gary's family needs to file a huge lawsuit against Price and have the police investigated for possibility they may have mishandled their investigation.

Something's way off here. Always follow the money trail. And that trail is obviously leading to Shannon Price's bank account.

I saw an interview this weekend on ET and she said she was forced to pull the plug because the doctors said he probably wouldn't make it through the night. She also stated that they were waiting for some friends to come see him and they didn't make it. So my question is why pull the plug? Why not let him die on his own if that is what was going to happen? She must be bipolar and was manic.

15 snowboard chick..........that may well be, but that does not make it right for her to pose with Gary while he was in a coma, pull the plug, then snap one more picture.

Sounds like Shannon's brain is a little fried.

It takes a minimum of two doctors to concur that continued life support is pointless and that the patient has zero chance to recover. In short, the patient is brain dead and/or cannot sustain life. Some larger hospitals have a panel of several doctors who make that decision. Then and only then is the person who has permission to make medical decisions approached about removing life support. Price was named as the person authorized to make that decision by virtue of Coleman's advance directives.
The do***ent being so bandied about says "I want my life to be prolonged as long as possible within the limits of generally accepted health care standards." The operative phrase is "within the limits of generally accepted health care standards".
There is nothing amiss, here.

Realistically, he had to know that a woman who looks that good (compared to him) is not in the relationship for love or sexual attraction. Think of all the beautiful women (not that she is beautiful, but compared to him, she is) who are married to stars today or are either much older and/or otherwise physically unattractive, and you know those women would not likely be with those guys if they were not who they are. And those guys know it's a trade-off.

Also, everyone is now talking about Gary as if were a little saint of some kind. He was at times quite nasty to people (and is said to have not even liked animals). True, he suffered a lot and was betrayed by people close to him, but so are a lot of other people who don't turn out as rude and belligerent as he has shown himself to be at times. He also appears to have blown through his $1.8 million settlement he received (although perhaps that included some legal fees he had to pay from it -- I don't know).

In fact, it would not surprise me that if the tables were turned, and it was Shannon who was famous and dying in the hospital, and he saw an opportunity to make money from taking and selling a few final photographs, that he would not have done the very same thing. She apparently wanted some financial security for what she went through with him, including spousal abuse. It's not that I think she is particularly intelligent or moral, but this is also not just a case of an "angel" betrayed by a "devil."

So many men who have little to offer physically or financially still think they are entitled to marry a gorgeous woman, as if women were a commodity and they want only "high-end" merchandise. Shannon is not the only one who wanted "high-end stuff." He could have sought a woman who was more equal to him on a financial and physical level, who might have loved him for himself, but that was apparently not his value system.

If his insurance wasn't any good the hospital would have been pushing to pull the plug to reduce costs. She probably just went along with it. I still think it'll all come out in the wash and if she's entitled to anything than that will prove itself out legally.

Just more proof that the hospital took this woman at her word in the capacity of wife and nopt according to an Advanced Directive that they obviously did not even glance at before allowing this woman to end his life.

The hospital should be sued for malpractice and Shannon should definitely serve jail time, if for no other reason, than overstepping her boundaries as set forth in this do***ent. She can't say she was unaware of the contents since she was lying that she was her wife to guarantee her authority.

That CUNextTuesday needs to go to prison. She is an absolute piece of white trash. Poor Gary Coleman. Hopefully he is in a better place where he will finally rest in piece. I'd rather sit on a lit cigarette then read another story about Shannon "big gums" Price. What a complete gold-digging whore.

I have to (somewhat) agree with #37. who else would have married Gary Coleman? He was lucky to have anyone....to tell the truth. He was sickly, I'm sure he required a lot of medical care and prescriptions....he was poor -- by Hollywood standards....that woman probably went through a lot....and she was probably glad to get rid of him, that's why she pulled the plug as quick as she did....but honestly, she doesn't seem too bright does she?

The probate judge will sort this mess out....there are 4 wills, which one is the REAL will? They're married, they're not married, they're married -- let the probate judge get to the bottom of it.

As for his medical condition, I can't believe she pulled the plug w/o consulting with the doctors. But honestly, his mom & dad should have had some say in this...I feel sorry for them...they were totally left out of everything...shame on Gary.
