Chris Brown Breaks Down Crying During MJ Tribute

6/28/2010 3:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

After about four minutes of some of the best Michael Jackson inspired dancing you will see, Chris Brown broke down crying on stage during the BET Awards tonight.

The waterworks start around 4:30 mark if that's what you're into -- but seriously, his dance routine before that was amazing.

He started crying right as he got to the "Man in the Mirror" portion of the medley. Coincidence?

Everyone who said something negative maybe white or either a sale out (oreo cookie) black one the outside and white on the inside. Thats just like a white person-hate to see a black man stand tall even after he has fell. Chris Brown i am so glad God saw your heart and allowed you to resume your position. Chris great job as a vessel who fell down but got up and standing tall and it was nobody but God that raised you up.

If there was a man in the mirror who needed to change his ways, it is Chris Brown.

Can anyone tell me -- how well did Chris even know Michael? I know that Michael mentioned his name a few times in interviews when asked who he liked in the "younger" crowd of up and coming talent, but I have to wonder how many times they even met? I agree with those who say that Chris isn't crying for Michael. I think he's crying for himself -- and possibly for the loss of how Michael could have possibly helped him with his career if he'd lived...

He did a great job and sure he regrets his actions but he shouldn't be beat down for the rest of his life, he made a mistake like all humans. Hopefully he is on the right track now, and judgement is not mine.

Dear haters,

Chris Brown was paying tribute to Michael Jackson way before MJ passed away. I'm pretty sure he's not ****y enough to think that he'd ever dance as good at him, but he damn well tried. I'm sure all the media scrutiny surrounding his personal life for the past 2 years has torn him apart so him breaking down trying to sing a song about 'change' and having it relate to himself makes perfect sense.

PS: Yeah he beat up a girl which still PISSES me off ... but for this one moment he was a superstar and this tribute was AMAZING!!!

I think that it is somewhat ironic that he did the MJ tribute... when MJ had the issues with the kids a looooot of ppl turned there backs on him and his music... ppl waited to long to forgive..

whether I support him or not I have to give him credit he is incredible dancer!

Vocally speaking, Usher & Ne-Yo have much better vocal control & style on stage.

Chris Brown's performance was average. I've seen him do a little better an MJ tribute at the 2006 World Music Awards. Check it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pz-w5PYRPc . \

And even here, Chris sounds like SH&T. Dancing was good. Vocally speaking, awful. Chris couldn't match the notes & words - he had to skip words to catch his breath. The dancing was better, but then again, Chris was probably 15-20 pounds lighter than he is now.

Vocally speaking, Chris needs a LOT of help breathing. Usher & Ne-Yo got that and more.

I'm not hating - that's an honest critique (outside of the Rihanna drama, which is a totally different story.)

45. there's no way that usher could have done those moves. i mean i don't condone what chris did obviously, but he was the only performer at the BET awards that could have pulled off the MJ tribute.
well people are people and he will always have his critics, but i think he did a fantastic job....

Good grief! Have any of you ever done anything in your life?

Chris Brown made a terrible mistake. And he is sorry for it.

What would any of your lives be like if ANTHING you did were to get out to the world? It could be something simple as being intimate with a spouse and people would call you a freak, disgusting, etc.

I think it's unfair to condemn a 21yr old man. After all those here who Like Michael Jackson I mean you are willing to give him a fair shot but nobody else? Hypocrite.

Chris Brown's performance was the best of the night. Stole the show. No one even cared he messed up the performance of Man in The Mirror by crying. It was an appropriate song to cry too and the rest of the performance was GREAT..So many people cried with him at that time. If you have the nerve to diss him on his performance, you have no heart and sense of what talent is. He performed a great tribute to AN IDOL, A HERO, A LEGEND. AMAZING JOB CHRIS BROWN. My favorite part was Smooth Criminal that was ILLL

And for everyone always saying "Who Cares" on everything Michael Jackson related, just stfu already, a lot of people care. Are you living under a rock or what?
