Larry King -- Divorcing Show After 25 Years

6/29/2010 7:37 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0629_larry_king_EXD_TMZ_2Larry King is pulling the plug on "Larry King Live" after 25 years on the air -- and LK insiders insist it was Larry's decision.

King just took to his Twitter to announce: "I’m ending my nightly show this fall but continuing at CNN."  Larry will be doing specials and would like to focus on sports stories.

He wrote in another message, "It's time to hang up my nightly suspenders."

CNN sources tell TMZ they're in talks "with a number of people" and they expect to make a decision on Larry's replacement in 2 to 4 weeks.

Sources tell us Larry made the decision in the last 24 hours.

There's been a buzz that King might not be renewed when is contract is up because of low ratings.

It's about time! It was nerve racking watching him ask a question and not allowing the guest to finish answering before he talked over them with another question. His attention span has been gone for many years now.

CNN went down when they let Lou Dobbs leave. They are a liberal and biased. Also they worship Obama and their ratings suck. LONG LIVE FOX NEWS ! CNN is like the Titanic of News.

Maybe people realized how ironic it was that Larry wants to jump on every single celebrity scandal that comes along, yet when his own wife walked out on him, accused him of banging her sister, and then O.D.'d - he didn't say a word.

WHAT A LOSS THERE IS NO ONE THAT CAN DO AN INTERVIEW LIKE LARRY. HIS INTERVIEWS ARE DONE IN RESPECTFUL WAY. NO NEED FOR RUDE COMMENTS, TREATS GUESTS RESPECTFUL. CNN HAS TAKEN AWAY QUALITY HOSTS AND REPLACED THEM UNSKILLED STAFF. ANDERSON COOPER AND SOLEDAD O'BRIAN ARE THE QUALITY PEOPLE LEFT. WHO EVER IS DRIVING THIS TRAIN IS GOING OFF THE TRACK.

Larry's decision? Larry's decision? Please. He got axed and it has been a long time coming. The man has made a fool of himself forgetting names, movie's....One of the best, I almost felt sorry for him was when he was interviewing American Idol judges this year and called their show "a comedy" and Randy goes, "What did he say?" as it was going to commercial. Randy's face looked like "WTF"?

The fact is the ratings at LKL have been in the toilet for quite a while. Anderson Cooper is the hot property at CNN. With Larrys show such a poor lead in to AC360..., LKL had to go. CNN gave Larry the option to say he was leaving. If he didn't, they had no plans to renew him.

Am broken-hearted to hear about Larry King, I feel a loss of stability and class, have been a fan for 25 years, Larry King was a source of up-to-date show biz and political interest, a host that had experience, humor and a real interest in people. CNN is making a terrible mistake, can't imagine TV without him, if it really had ANYTHING to do with ratings, wait until he leaves!

Sports stories???? Nice laugh for me to start my day with!

Larry King had his run and it was a GREAT one! Then his personal life became better known than his show and he let his looks go. Sorry, but, in this day with SO many TV choice his show was no longer unique he HAD to keep his looks to keep the casual viewer tuned in - and he chose not to. And he let his personal choices become public jokes - many of them. His ratings were dropping like a stone. He went out, hopefully, at his own choice and not because his show was taken away.
