Kelsey Grammer Was Done with Marriage

7/2/2010 10:38 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Sources tell TMZ ... Kelsey Grammer made it clear to his wife ... he didn't want to be married anymore, and his actions on Father's Day pushed Camille over the line.

Kelsey Grammer
TMZ broke the story ... Camille Grammer filed for divorce yesterday, citing "irreconcilable differences."

Sources connected with the couple tell TMZ ... the 13-year marriage started crumbling when Kelsey moved to New York earlier this year to star in "La Cage Aux Folles" on Broadway.

Camille stayed with their two kids in L.A. and flew back and forth to visit him, but sources say it became apparent "Kelsey loved New York, his friends and his freedom more than his marriage."

We're told the tipping point for Camille was Father's Day, when Kelsey was 2,475 air miles away from his family and didn't call his kids.

As one source said, "She doesn't know what Kelsey is doing in New York, but he's made it pretty clear he wants nothing to do with marriage anymore," adding, "She didn't see it coming."

The Commercialization of Fathers Day

The Associated Men's Wear Retailers formed a National Father's Day Committee in New York City in the 1930s, which was renamed in 1938 to National Council for the Promotion of Father's Day and incorporated several other trade groups.[6] This council had the goals of legitimizing the holiday in the mind of the people and managing the holiday as a commercial event in a more systematic way, in order to boost the sales during the holiday.[6] This council always had the support of Dodd, who had no problem with the commercialization of the holiday and endorsed several promotions to increase the amount of gifts.[7] In this aspect she can be considered the opposite of Anna Jarvis, who actively opposed all commercialization of Mother's Day.[7]

The merchants recognized the tendency to parody and satirize the holiday, and used it to their benefit by mocking the holiday on the same advertisements where they promoted the gifts for fathers.[8] People felt compelled to buy gifts even though they saw through the commercial façade, and the custom of giving gifts on that day became progressively more accepted.[8] By 1937 the Father's Day Council calculated that only one father in six had received a present on that day.[8] However, by the 1980s, the Council proclaimed that they had achieved their goal: the one-day event had become a three-week commercial event, a "second Christmas".[8] Its executive director explained back in 1949 that, without the coordinated efforts of the Council and of the groups supporting it, the holiday would have disappeared.[8]

Just saying...but I've been divorced for a looooooong time and my ex's BD and Father's Day falls very close at times. I still remind my college age kids (warms my heart now when they scold me for reminding them) or even make a pan of his/their favorite food so the "kids" could take dinner to him and his longtime GF. When kids are younger, it is up to the opposite parent to take the lead. Is Camille spinning because she wants a divorce and a big pay-out? She would crap herself if she knew what real women get for child support. We get along for the sake of our kids (and put up with a lot of caca). The goal is raising those kids as normal and healthy as possible, never lose sight of that, Camille and Kelsey.

These women are all the same. They start out loving and sweet, and after a few years they turn into bitter, grumpy, bossy Kate Gosselins, then wonder why their husband doesn't love them anymore.

Sincerely,
George Clooney.

We never had Father's day, my dad did not want that. He loved all of us and he would always take time to help us and as children we always liked to help him.
If Grammer was and is really done with his marriage, he should have been honest to his wife and maybe his children (depending on their age).
For some reason I fail to understand why men are able to leave their wife and - what's worse - their children. Many people could learn from several animals who remain partners for life.

I'm with Kelsey on this one and as a Father, I agree the kids should have called him, not the other way around.

Like usual, I'll bet she stopped giving up the cooter, like all women do once they get married and sink their teeth into his wallet.
A man has needs and wants to be told he is awesome and wants to be sexually overwhelmed, and if we cqan't get it at home, we will go elsewhere. Money be damed!
Lifes too short, why be unhappy?

I think he is a closet gay anyway but his wife most likely lost interest when his career started tanking and the money wasn't rolling in as fast.

KG, love you Man, hang in there. BTW, had you asked I would have told you to never ever marry a woman named Camille. It was the seven worst years of my life.

Kids call the father on Father's Day.. If the kids are too young, the mother helps the kids call the father on Father's Day..
Gimme a break..

She's signed on to be in "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" which is Exhibit A that she's vapid, self-absorbed, talentless and desperate. No wonder he couldn't get far enough away.

Kelsey is in NY working on a hit Broadway show. I can understand him being separated from his family on Father's Day. It's called having a job. They are wealthy. Perhaps she and the kids could have flown to him if this holiday meant so much.

Putting the burden of the phone call on him is absurd. These two obviously have other issues...whether she wants fame, whether he is gay or has found something or someone else in his life, who knows? But the phone call excuse is just BS.

My Ex-Husband doesn't have to call his own Son on Father's Day, just like my Dad doesn't call me on Father's Day. The Mother is the one to have the kids call, no way around it. She's a stupid biotch. His kids probably didn't even know it was Father's Day, DUH! Why couldn't she fly out there and surprise him with the kids? Why does he have to plan HIS day? Just the fact that she is in public yapping on the phone shows how ignorant she is.

It also amazes me that AUTOMATICALLY, the Man is at fault and everything the wife says is golden. Women can be very evil and vindictive, not that Men can't, but it's different. Nobody knows the truth!

I smell a rat. If Camille really is on 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills', and all things point to that as a fact, it seems more likely she WAS tied to L.A. The show started filming in March. She filed because her career path will be way more lucrative for her if she can play the single cougar on the new reality show. Maybe they've even cooked this up between themselves. Anything is possible in Hollywood folks!
