Kentucky Basketball Players Subject of NCAA Probe

7/2/2010 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned the NCAA is taking an aggressive look at University of Kentucky basketball players -- past and current -- and their possible involvement with professional agents.

According to a source who was interviewed by an NCAA investigator, the agency is interested in at least four players -- two current and two who were just drafted by NBA teams.

In the case of one former Wildcat, we're told the NCAA wants to know about his relationship with his current agent. We're told the investigator asked about multiple meetings the agent allegedly had with the player ... dating back to the player's senior year in high school.

The insinuation is the agent had an arrangement with the player before he went to Kentucky.

It is a violation of NCAA rules for a student athlete to receive anything of value from an agent -- or
to have any agreements, verbally or in writing, with an agent. Just ask USC, Reggie Bush or OJ Mayo.

Kentucky "declined comment" -- and a rep for the NCAA tells us, "The NCAA does not comment on current, pending or potential investigations."

Bleed Blue

It's a slow day in Hollywood when TMZ is worried about UK. If this story was true ESPN would be all over it. Why don't you leave us alone and let us enjoy our basketball. You are just a bunch of sh*t stirrers. This is people's lives you are jerking with and we are proud of our basketball program and all of the boys that were drafted in the NBA. John Wall , DeMarcus
Cousins , Patrick Patterson, and Eric Bledsoe worked hard to get drafted. Pure talent and hard work. Try it sometime.

I never believe anything I read on the internet.
Anyone can get a domain name, start up a website, and post anything they want about anyone on the internet.
Who has enough money to hire an expensive attorney, to sue someone who probably doesn't have much money anyway?

We are going to get just what we deserve. We sold our souls to grab this snake oil used car salesman even when we knew just what he was in order to steal U of M's recruits and buy a championship. We all knew about Worldwide Wes and I don't care what you hear we knew we would end up on probation or worse from NCAA but we all hoped it would come after winning the big prize. We didn't and we are going to go down in flames and we deserve it!

First of all, I'm a U of L grad. The problem is the system the NCAA and the NBA has set up. It's all about the money. These kids should be going to the NBA from high school. The one and done is the most insane thing ever created. They should adopt the baseball rule, go from high school or you can't go until after your junior year of college. The current setup is a sham and an insult to college sports. The top players never had to learn anything in high school and the schools passed them. That's why UK had one of the lowest GPA's in the country. That's why Daniel Orton tweeted he was sorry he flunked an on-line course and it may hurt UK. An ON-LINE course? Geesus H Christ. I can't believe he actually tweeted that. What a dumb ass. Don't blame Cal, he's just working with the cards he's dealt, albeit always on the edge. Anytime you get the top players there will be baggage. Agents have been hanging around these kids since middle school. However, I would like to see them forfeit last season's games so I can give the UK fans sh*t about their UK2K tee-shirts.

Why do people always think that people are out to get UK? It kills me, but then again UK fans are worse than Yankee fans so I'm not suprised there.

So TMZ has finally decided to be the poor mans ESPN, i thought this site was a source for celebrity news.If you guys try venturing into cheating scandals with colleges you might as well devote a whole different site to it.If you can report so much about Kentucky you might want to send Harvey to Kansas their is a truckload of scandal there,....by the way....GO BIG BLUE!!!

Of course UK has a dirty program with Coach Cal. What do you expect? His track record speaks for itself. For many coaches, rules are like records. They are meant to be broken. For the most part, the NCAA is too inept to know what's going on. The teams that get busted have to be way over the top in their cheating strategies. The best example is USC football. USC has been "financing athletes" for decades, but it became too overt for the NCAA to ignore during the Cheaty Pete/Reggie Bush era. The ruling against the Trojans was about the NCAA maintaining credibility. USC will "Cheat On" because the allure of winning is too seductive and the "Trojan Family" is in complete denial that their precious glory was purchased by alumni. Kentucky is another place with psycho-fans and administrators that over identify with their so called amateur teams. Cheating is only an issue if you get caught, but in the meantime - win baby win! Kind of sad eh?

I believe this is smoke. However, I would like to proffer a reasonable settlement to athletes who are under scholarship and cavort with agents.
The student/athletes and all agents should sign a contract stating that they are 'clean' with regards to the NCAA 'rules'. If found in violation then the universities should be able to 'recover' their losses by way of the court system. When the new NBA/NFL stars and their agents find that their next 5 years salary is gone to 'damages' it will get others attention.

My question is that why would TMZ post some fake information? If they are going to release a story, they will make sure that all of their sources are legit. They are a credible news agency and they wouldn't write a story that would make then look bad in the end if they are trying to solidify their spot in the sports news world. Of course they are going to have sources, all reporters do on most of their stories. You think they are actually going to name their sources? Yeah, just like all reporters do. C'mon people, use a little common sense, if you have any.

I cant fault some of the college athletes for taking offerings which comes their way. I mean these colleges with top sports programs rank in big bucks and i certainly feel it should be trickle down to the players. I mean thats who the fans come to see. So that's why sometimes i can see why these athletes play for two years and move on to the professional level especially for the players who come from a rough background. Something needs to be done.

I have been a Kentucky Basketball fan since the late fifties(Cotton Nash)days.....These are my feelings--I think the AD and President felt so much pressure that they gave up all principles in the hiring of Calipari--then the Big Blue Nation completely turned their collective heads and buried them in the "dirt"!! I hate to even think of this but all wins will be vacated and AD,President and Calipari will all be fired and UK will be given the Death Penalty by the NCAA...Sorry but this will become a nightmare sooner than later!!
