LeBron James -- The Coldest Cut of All

7/9/2010 5:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

LeBron James couldn't have possibly predicted just how much he'd piss off New Yorkers last night -- because now he's facing backlash from the most powerful Jewish deli ever.

The world-famous Carnegie Deli -- home of the best rice pudding on Earth -- is sticking it to LeBron the best way it can ... by discontinuing a sandwich it named after the guy.

See, a few weeks ago ... when LeBron was toying with the emotions of New Yorkers by pretending to be interested in the Knicks, the deli created a mega-sandwich in his honor ... a foot-high turkey, pastrami, corned beef, brisket, American cheese, lettuce, tomato spectacle stacked on rye bread.

But now that LeBron dissed the Big Apple ... the deli is dumping the sando.

FYI -- the sandwich sold for $19.95 -- but some things money can't buy ... like loyalty.

Yay for Carnegie Deli discontinuing the sandwich. But they could've kept it on the menu and then when some mench had a heart attack from what's in it...they could blame it on Lebron.
I didn't figure he'd come to the Knicks. But that whole tour thing and that exceedingly lame interview with that pariah, Jim Grey? Unconscionable!!

I agree #10 - this is just stupid.

Who wants to place a bet on how long will it be before he gets arrested in Miami? All the money & attention these pro sports players get is really going to their heads. At least hockey players only fight on the ice.

lebron should just buy the place and fire everyone ..

Dear TMZ,

Please don't use words like "sando." It's embarrassing and you're better than that.

"He doesn't owe you NY sh*t. NY has loser teams."

i think the 27 time World Series Champs would disagree as would the Giants, who were Super Bowl champs a few years back.

And to the person asking why would pay $19 for a sandwich. Its a foot high. If you've ever been to the Carnegie Deli or even Harolds, you get enough meat for about 6-7 people.

All this Lebron James hate is hilarious. If an owner trades a guy or cuts a player its no big deal but when a free agent leaves he's turning his back on everyone? And people say he took the easy way out when Chicago had the best roster for right now, he turned down more money that he could have got in Cleveland, and the attention he would have got in New York for what he feels is the best place to win multiple titles. In the words of Herm Edwards, "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME."

People from Cleveland need to stop acting like this guy owes them something. He gave you 7 years of excitement. Got Cleveland to a NBA Finals, the best record 2 years in a row, basically saved business in downtown Cleveland, increased the value of the franchise by over $100 million. Its selfish for Cleveland fans to ask him to stay and suffer the rest of his career never winning a title just for their pleasure.

Nobody wants to live in Cleveland. Why do you think no free agents ever sign there. And then with an owner that acts like a little girl, its back to the lotto you go.

Lebron did what was going to make him happy and thats what he should have done. If he wants to go play with his close friends, then why not?

I wish him the best of luck and hope he gets the titles he's looking for.

Last time I checked, we live in a free country. I don't get how anyone can put LeBron down for making a choice. I don't know if you saw the pissy, sarcastic letter that one of the co owners of Cleveland wrote that is available on MSNBC, but it was a true sign of immaturity and just plain bad sportsmanship. Cripes , he was a part of the team, not THE team. Maybe someone else will have their turn to shine...

GTFOH! Did they make a sandwich named after any Knick, past or present? As for you idiots that burned your jersey, you already paid for it, how is he going to suffer?

HMMMMM... What more important? Leboring's NBA future or the Oil Spill in the Gulf....? Bigger issues than his new team..

Harvey trying to get some cheap advertising in for Carnegie Deli? Charging twenty bucks for a sandwich because they named it for someone? No thanks. Good Luck LeBron.

fyi, Harvey...I'd say a lot of Americans don't go for that kind of crap anymore.... "because now he's facing backlash from the most powerful Jewish deli ever." What are you trying to say, TMZ?

@Pamela. If you saw how big the sandwiches are, you would understand the price.
@Hep, How can you get famous for taking two slices of stale bread, cramming a pound of sandwich meat between them (and nothing else)

A foot-high turkey, pastrami, corned beef, brisket, American cheese, lettuce, tomato spectacle stacked on rye bread.
Read much Hep?

@Erik in Sacramento, you are dumb. Many teams think they have a right to be mad because LeBron didn't go play for them and NY is one of them. TMZ is right on and you need to stop commenting.
