'Jersey Shore'

Cast Goes on Strike

7/18/2010 4:39 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The cast of "Jersey Shore" is so dissatisfied over their contract situation that they refused to shoot scenes for the upcoming third season until they get a better deal ... this according to sources connected with the show.

The cast was supposed to begin shooting "at home" scenes today for season three, but we're told Jwoww, Ronnie, Sammi, Pauly D and Vinny -- who are spread out between New York and Rhode Island -- told the crews they weren't shooting without new contracts.

The Situation and Snooki are supposed to shoot tomorrow, and we're told Snooki plans to do the same. No word yet on The Situation, but as we first reported ... he's having contract issues of his own.

Sources close to the show tell TMZ the cast feels they can make more money doing appearances for two months, rather than filming the show.

A rep for MTV had no comment.

I completely support their decision. MTV has been taking advantage of them. I looked at their contract when they first started, and I heard it didn't even really get better. It's slavery. Seeing these reality show contestants work for nothing is sort of disgusting. That's what keeps me from watching these shows.

Cancel the show along with every other moronic cookie cutter reality tv train wreck. It's time the television industry reclaimed some self respect.
Putting idiots on tv as a spectacle for people to gasp at is getting old FAST! Start using your medium responsibly or sooner or later the public will seize it and do it for you and all you mindless suits at the networks will be nothing more then a footnote in the history books about the dark days of crap programming when talentless hacks ran the networks and their only goal was to placate ignorance and stupidity for a quick buck!

MTV was really stupid for not having an all new cast every year, if they were interested in continuing the show. I just don't get it. Can you imagine Survivor or Big Brother with the same cast year after year? The Situation and Snookie actually believe they're stars, not realizing that people look at them as bad jokes.

Guys, before commenting, you should look up what these guys make in their contracts. It's an utter pittance. All these TV channels pull the same stunt. I thought this country fought to end slavery? But it's funny, these same corporate bigwigs are doing the same thing to all of us in our jobs, telling us we should be grateful to be paid slave wages. It's disgusting.

These idiots don't deserve two cents per episode....please stay on strike. I just hope MTV isn't stupid enough to give into these ungrateful, disgusting wannabees! I have never watched an episode, but the few clips I have seen of these pathetic excuse for human beings I am still baffled on why exactly their 15 minutes wasn't up months ago!!!

America is the most bizarre country. I think it's the only place in the world where the people side with the corporate overlords, the rich. Take half of a multi-millionaire or billionaire's worth or salary away, and ask yourself if they can still live a good life, and take half of a regular, blue-collar or salaried employee's salary or worth away, and see if they can still survive. The blue collar/salaried employee is out on the street, homeless, the multi-millionaire/billionaire probably won't even notice.

You're not rich, stop supporting them! They are not victims!

Give me a break, I hate these people. They have delusions of being relevant. Just go away already!

It's time to sit down, look in a mirror, and really ask yourself: On a show made up of stereotypical people, "How irreplaceable am I?". This question will be notably harder for the girls, when they realize that what makes most of their appearance (fake hair, fake nails, fake eyelashes, etc. etc. etc.) can be bought at any make-up counter, anywhere.

I think they should absolutely go on strike. MTV can sue them for breach, and no one will hire them since they are doing appearances because of the show. Once the show is gone, they are nobodies again. I think a strike is in everyone's best interests ... especially the public's.
