The producers of "Jersey Shore" don't want to cave to the cast's demand for more money, and are ready to cut the cord, TMZ has learned.
TMZ broke the story ... members of the cast went on strike yesterday, refusing to shoot over the weekend for Season 3.
Sources connected with 495 Productions tell TMZ the cast is ultimately hurting the show. As one source put it, "The show is not about famous rich people with managers coming to the Shore."
495 would like to keep a few of the cast members -- notably The Situation, Snooki and Pauly D -- but they think the strike by the cast is the last straw.
We're told the cast feels like they've been tricked, because they felt their contract -- which gives each of them $10,000 an episode -- was only supposed to cover Season 2 in Miami. They feel they're being screwed now that producers want them to go to the Shore and shoot another installment under the existing deal.
As we first reported, The Situation is being tempted with a sweet new contract and we're told it's pissed off some of the other cast as well as the crew.
Here's the rub ... Sources say MTV thinks they have "magic in a bottle" with this group and wants to keep the cast intact.
A rep for MTV had no comment.

But why shouldn't they get paid , i mean they pay the cast of the hills. What lauren almost earned 1 million..lol--for what?lol-so because they are guidos(a.k.a white Ni**ers/lol) , they shouldn't deserve better paychecks ?
Don't know why everybody is so upset with them--Look at this way-the weekends that you are bored as hell--Just tune in to watch the accident...lol---thats the way i see it..
All these greasy guidos are one potato chip and a day off from the gym from being fat lards of meatballs
You know, the Jersey Shore (the actual shore, not the show) was actually starting to get better. Seaside Heights was a dump back in the early 80s; I stopped going there in 1982; enough was enough. I finally went back in August 2009 and what an improvement. It rebounded nicely, despite these losers coming to town. It's going to hurt to see what low lifes show up this year...
There has to be an end to talentless people making insane money for no reason and this is the beginning. $10k/episode for doing NOTHING is more than enough. Kick them to the curb and give the next generation of famewhres something to think about...
I didn't realize trailer trash was valued higher than it actually is. Pull the plug on the show. It makes me want to vomit. JHo looks like a prostitute and Snackems, looks like 50lbs. of crap in a 2lb bag. They have the I.Q.'s of a handball. That would be a combined I.Q.
TMZ FEEL FREE TO NOTIFY ME WHEN YOU PUT MJ BACK ON THIS SIGHT UNTIL THEN I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO. THANK YOU
The show is a train wreck.. I'll look then turn the channel like everyone else.. I say fire them ALL and start over with a new cast.
TMZ FEEL FREE TO NOTIFY ME WHEN YOU PUT MJ BACK ON THIS SIGHT UNTIL THEN I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO. THANK YOU
Will somebody PLEASE take these idiots off TV?! This show makes me want to puke. There is nothing interesting about this sorry teenager real life show.
These guys think they are Hulk Hogan or something. They look like steroid crazed children. The girls look like hookers.
Pay them more? You've got to be kidding. We are waiting for the damn show to be cancelled so we don't have to look at this mess. Go away - go far away and don't come back.
Meanwhile while they they underpay and take advantage of these lowbrow ethnic racist stereotypes, MTV removed a show skit that offended Indians. MTV is excrement pop culture by and for sick minds. I hope there's a revolution in Hollywood and it starts at Viacom.
Listen to all the trash and spoiled brats whine...I bet if you worked on the show and found out how much it was making, you wouldn't like that little pittance you were getting. This is why unions are good. They're only bad when the workers get unrealistically greedy. I wouldn't say the Jersey Shore cast has gotten there yet. Remember, these networks take 10% of all the appearance fees, book deals, whatnot, that they get! How greedy is that! Reality stars get screwed, big time.
Put these clowns on PPV and see how many fans they get. Enough is enough.Let the sell cotton candy on a pier in Jersey..
Expendable sure you can get untrained animals anywhere not just NJ
I agree with most on here. Pull the plug. But please MTV don't put on another "Im a juvenile and pregnant" show those suck too.
