NCAA Probes Party with 2009 Heisman Winner

7/22/2010 1:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned the NCAA wants to talk to Alabama's Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram about a lavish party he attended in Washington, DC -- and whether any NCAA rules were broken.

A source with knowledge of the inquiry says Ingram attended the party on May 12th at District nightclub. Ingram was photographed (left) at the celebration for college stars who had just been drafted by NFL teams -- including Florida's Joe Haden (center).

Ingram is a returning junior this year and we're told the NCAA wants to know if agents paid for anything involved with his DC trip -- which could be a violation of NCAA rules.

The University of Alabama says Ingram is on the up and up. The Compliance Department tells us, "Mark asked if he could visit Joe Haden at his home in Baltimore. We checked with the NCAA and they approved this trip as long as Mark provided receipts for his expenses."

It's unclear whether those receipts were submitted, but clearly the NCAA has unanswered questions.

Ingram, by the way, was a total badass last season -- leading the Crimson Tide to the National Championship and winning the Heisman.

The University of Alabama holds its' students (and particularly student athletes) to the highest degree of excellence. It sounds like the NCAA forgot that permission had been granted BEFORE Mark went to New York to accept the Heisman Trophy. The University of Alabama has NEVER cheated. Yes, we were once put on probation because a player signed a paper napkin with an agent on the night we won a national championship but then decided he did not want to go pro (he received NO MONEY). Then we had a rogue booster that was not associated with the school give a high school coach $100K to persuade one of his players to come the University of Alabama. NONE of which was known by the school or coaching staff. Recently, there were a number of athletes that got books for their friends when they picked up their own books at the beginning of the semester.

So, the University of Alabama has NEVER paid players or done anything unethical to gain an unfair advantage over other schools. In this case, it sounds like the NCAA forget that they had given permission for Mr. Ingram to attend the party while he was in New York accepting the Heisman Trophy!

Good News

This could actually make Alabama better if Ingram is suspended. Trent Richardson would have been the only Heisman finalist last year if he would have had the same number of carries that Ingram did.

TENNESSEE FANS HATE ALABAMA BECAUSE THEY WISH THEY HAD SOME KIND OF LEGACY AT THEIR SCHOOL.

Mark Ingram is a great kid. He is too smart (street and academic) to have violated NCAA rules. Lot of haters posting comments. Why can't you just be happy for the kid?

TUSCALOOSA | Hesiman Trophy winner Mark Ingram got NCAA approval to make a trip to the Washington, D.C., area in May to visit former Florida player Joe Haden and is not under investigation by the NCAA over the matter, a University of Alabama athletics department spokesman said Thursday.

Celebrity news web site TMZ.com is reporting that Ingram attended a May 12 party at District nightclub in Washington, D.C., and that the NCAA wants to talk to Ingram about the trip. The party was for players who had recently been drafted by the National Football League, according to the report.

“This was vetted before it happened,” UA spokesman Doug Walker said.

Ingram approached the UA compliance office before making the trip, and UA got clearance from the NCAA, which said the trip was permissible as long as Ingram provided receipts showing he paid his own way. Ingram presented the receipts to the UA compliance office upon his return.

“Mark provided appropriate do***entation,” Walker said. “We're not aware of any issues with this.”

The TMZ report comes on he heels of news that UA, in conjunction with the NCAA, is probing a similar issue with Marcell Dareus, a first-team Preseason All-Southeastern Conference defensive lineman, over his trip to a party held by an agent this summer in Miami.

Ingram set a single-season Alabama rushing record last season, running for 1,542 yards -- with a 6.2-yard average per carry -- and scoring 18 touchdowns to become Alabama's first-ever Heisman Trophy winner in the closest vote in the 75-year history of the award.

Ingram is simply a cog in a system of entitlement that the university of alabama promotes. The players are paid while in high school to attend alabama; their grades are fixed in high school in order to be eligible; and now, not surprisingly, they are not shy about accepting improper incentives and gifts while in school there. alabama is a cesspool; it is simply a matter of the will of the NCAA to investigate there.
