Lindsay Lohan

Rehab for Meth

and Bipolar Disorder

8/2/2010 6:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned Lindsay Lohan will be treated for addiction to methamphethamine and bipolar disorder during her court ordered 90 days in rehab.

Lindsay Lohan Rehab - Bipolar
According to a source familiar with Lindsay's case, methamphetamine and opiates are her "drugs of choice".

Methamphetamine -- also known as crystal meth or simply meth -- is a highly addictive stimulant and opiates, generally, have more of a downer effect.

Morningside Recovery -- the Orange County, CA rehab LiLo is scheduled to enter -- lists opiate and methamphetamine detoxification among its specialties. As TMZ first reported, sources say Morningside was not on the list of facilities recommended by court appointed psychiatrists.

We're told Lindsay will begin her rehab stint almost immediately after getting out of Lynwood Correctional Facility.

UPDATE: Lindsay's attorney Shawn Chapman Holley says, "I have never seen any psych report concerning Ms. Lohan which references a 'bi-polar' diagnosis or an addiction to 'methamphetamine.' I think this is a total fabrication."

One important note ... it has been widely reported that Lindsay takes the prescription drug Adderall, which is an amphetamine. Experts in the field of rehab and addiction tell TMZ there is a difference between amphetamine and methamphetamine.

We're told it would not be common for a rehab facility to consider Adderall and methamphetamine the same drug.

you guys need to stop fighting on the fourm. If amos christina wants to give her kids adderall for their " ADHD" then it's her decision, she will have to face the consequences later in life. unfortunately our society has been brainwashed by powerful drug companies, and people choose to stay ignorant no matter what you say or do!

Why is anyone surprised she's a meth head? Faces of meth, anyone? Linds is the poster child.

We'd speculated she was a meth head maybe a year ago here on TMZ:

Unfortunately, meth does brain damage. This girl's brain will never be the same again. Worse, the brain damage meth causes is IRREVERSIBLE.

Last, why is she allowed to go to a fancy rehab that the court psychiatrists DID NOT RECOMMEND she go to? Can't the judge say "no" to crediting her with whatever time there? Wasn't she ordered to abide by what the court's shrinks told her to do?

Doesn't add up, TMZ. Please be more clear in your reporting..oh, right..it's the weekend skeleton crew reporting again.

First off she needs to be off meth and opiates BEFORE being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her supposed mood swings could be caused by the drugs she is taking. So she really does need treatment for the drugs then see if she is truly bipolar.

Let's watch how long it takes for TMZ to either change this post or make a new post claiming that the Amphetamines "just means the Adderall she's on" - due to Lindsay's legal team threatening TMZ or something.
We all know that's NOT what it means, but I have a feeling this will disappear or be corrected later.

I can't believe people think she is faking her mental disorder. Bipolar disorder ( manic-depressive disorder) is a form of depression, you have days when you feel happy and then days when you feel extremly depressed!!! mood stablizer will help that. why would she fake her disorder??? You guys are really awful for saying that!! it doesn't make sense..The medication that she will get for being bipolar can't be used recreationally!!! You guys act like you know everything about this girl.

And her fans labeled all those who were calling her a bi-polar meth-head as haters. The signs have been glaring and unmistakable all along.

What you are saying about opiates & coke is true from what I understand.
I seen people addicted to meth that had beautiful teeth to begin with & after heavy use & addiction their teeth were still beautiful except for the residing gum line. That's where most problems with the teeth begin. The enamel is no longer at the base of your teeth.
I have also seen meth addicts who have gained weight during the time they were hitting the glass ****. I think it's the booze. They can also eat food.
LL uses meth. Bottom line.

I'm not buying it. Why did she have coke in her pocket? The usual "drug of choice" for bipolar people is alcohol and coke. Meth makes them psychotic.

@122 Susan

The tester you were caught with was defective! Be glad it is not evidence! Had you failed a lab test the report is about 30 pages long and is evidence.

Prescription drugs show a much different graph than street drugs, the lab test can tell what it was cut with and what base chemicals it was reagent-ed with and cleaned with. A full spectrum series of tests can also tell how much you smoke, if you take things like aspirin, have been exposed to things like mercury, and more defined things than you would care to know about!!! Most people have no idea what Mass Spectrum Gas Chromatography is or how it works. You might be surprised to know that the same test is used on engine oil from jets to predict failure and that it saves billions of dollars because it is easier and cheaper to rebuild a jet before it fails.

3. Stimulants
a. Methylphenidate (Ritalin) and amphetamine/detroamphetamine (Adderall)

Meth killed my nephew. You can tell she's on it, with her face all puffy and bloated. She needs to be in-treatment for at least a year to kick her habit, tho, or she will return to her old ways. She needs long term care, after jail. I do not understand, however, why she is there for bi-polar disorder. You can be a functioning part of society with bipolar, and there's no cause for going to rehab. Bad excuse!!!

Majestik

TMZ, you really fell down on this one. Meth addicted? Give me a break, my son is a recovering Meth addict, his charges in his recovery house are mostly Meth addicts. If she were truly an addicted she wouldn't be able to work and the cameras would have caught her on more than one occasion sketching out.

The Watcher

Hannah and others - ditto. I am also bipolar. I suffered for years. In 2002, I was diagnosed as bipolar. I don't tell everyone. I resent this being used as a cover for many. It's a tough life. Unless you truly have it, you don't understand. I'm not proud or ashamed. It's just another fact about me. I also resent when people bandy the word about, "Oh, I had a bipolar moment," or "I'm all bipolar when it comes to ______." If Britney Spears is bipolar, she has never been an advocate of mental health. You would think when someone is properly diagnosed, that person is so grateful they want to help others. Not Britney. Surely not Lindsay Lohan.
