Ice Cube's new movie "Lottery Ticket" doesn't come out for another week -- but there's already a legal fight over the flick ... from a screenwriter who claims his agent ripped off his idea and gave it to another one of his clients.
The man filing the lawsuit is Tom Huang -- who once wrote an episode of "The Mullets" back in 2003.
According to legal documents, Huang claims he came up with an idea for a movie back in 2004, wrote a "treatment" for it ... and talked it over with his agent Brad Kaplan.
But in the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in L.A. County Superior Court, Huang claims Kaplan "stole" the idea and gave it to one of his clients named Erik White .. who went on to write and direct "Lottery Ticket."
Huang claims "Lottery Ticket" ripped off all sorts of elements from his movie -- including "detailed plot elements, characters, and scenes." Huang is suing for an undisclosed amount -- but states in the lawsuit that he believes "Lottery Ticket" will rake in millions ... so it's safe to say he's gonna want a ton of cash.
In the docs, Huang claims that the agent Brad Kaplan denies any wrongdoing -- and believes White "created the story" for Lottery Ticket.

i know there is the whole principle of the thing but who would really want to own the rights to a movie that most certainly will bomb
I dunno dan, they made a THIRD Friday (the second made the first one all ashamed to share the movie's name) and a SECOND barbershop! Some fool is proud of that...
Or her could stop being a money hungry whore and look at the cast involved in said movie and realize "holy ****. I wrote something that attracts the worst z-list actors/actresses." Or he can continue the lawsuit and realize his true position in life. Oh, and that is as a worthless **** that tries to feed of other peoples success'. Have a nice day bub. You're always going to be a nothing.
Why put quotation marks before and after the word treatment? I'm guessing you guys think it's BS? I'm beginning to think that to. Although, the movie hasn't been out yet, so he may be telling the truth.
What you usually do, so you can prove that that was your original idea, is at least register the treatment with the WGA.
If he did that, great! If not, oh well!
to amber. Friday was made around the time cube had just finished boys in the hood so Friday was someone of a comedy version, furthermore he was at the height of his popularity just coming off of nwa, second the barbershop movies weren't that really offensive so they were OK and the story was OK
I thought the first 2 fridays were funny, and the ads for this lottery thing looks funny.Sure wont pay 8 bucks to see it though.
Dumbest plot line. Ever. Took a real genious to think that one up. And an ever brighter genious to steal it. It's not stealing if you pull trash out of a dumpster.
ICE CUBE HAS BEEN AN EPIC FAIL IN MOVIES OVER THE LAST DECADE. THIS SHIET FLICK AINT EARNING ANY "MILLIONS". MIGHT COVER PRODUCTION COSTS, THAT'S ABOUT IT.
Seems like with a lot of movies these days, they suck you in by putting the best parts in the commercials & promos...the commercials for this one aren't even funny...BOMB.
Why care about a movie that will be a flop?
Tired of all these stereotypical, stupid black movies anyway
I'm black and it's insulting
Make the fight worth it over a good movie...like Harry Potter :)
this plot's been done in so many different ways it's impossible to not steal some element.
I'm with you guys. So he thinks this move is gonna make millions? It'll be lucky to make hundreds. And the fact that he actually wants to take credit for this crap...SMH.
is it just me or every dude in this photo except Ice Cube looks straight gay fish? why guys think they need to look fruity these days is beyond me....
and this movie looks pretty garbage btw
