Mel Gibson's

Crashed Maserati --

The Wreckage

8/17/2010 10:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has obtained the photos of Mel Gibson's smashed up Maserati -- taken after he crashed the ultra-expensive ride into a rocky hillside in Malibu on Sunday.

The front passenger wheel area is a total mess -- with serious cosmetic and functional tire damage ... which is why the car had to be towed from the scene.

As we first reported, Gibson told CHP officers in the field that he did not know how the car drifted out of the lane and into the hillside.  But according to the police report, alcohol was not a factor.

Same reason the media used to call her Timoth Dalton's wife - wishful thinking on her part.

It would be... if it her his fault! lol

he would have married her if she signed a prenup... but alas, she's either a greedy bitch, or too good for that... stupid part is, should could've walked away with more if she signed it

why do you bother responding to anon's posts... posting something here from another thread just eggs it on to come here and sling insults...

like the playground, if we all just ignore it, it will go away. The only reason anon keep posting is cuz people keep responding.

not a single post has been legible or credible unless it was an insult.

Hi Squeak...I agree with you. But I never respond to anon through his posts. This was was no exception. I just posted my comments to what he posted for others to read. Others have responded to anon rather regularly...and that is their privilege. I wasn't on TMZ last evening or early this am. But this post of anon's was just so PR-ish, I wanted to leave a comment on a more recent board.

Squeaky Shoes

honestly... i would debate with toxana supporters all day, if any of them had a valid point, or even a non-insulting point.

why can't these people just politely say what they're thinking... why do 99% of them have to be a-holes?

it just doesn't make sense... you can't win over a crowd with insults and threats...

...or can you? ;)

Bubbles The Chimp

Racist Mel probably was having hallucations that 1000 Oksana's were walking near and tried to run them down. That is what happens to people who are not right in the brain.

Mel can't stay out of the news! His career will never be over; frustrating as all this must be, NO NEWS IS BAD NEWS. All this is boosting his career. He's an international hero for not killing the oinkster but still telling her what's up! And some! The more we see of her the milder his words sound!

@Squeaky Shoes

My objection to some of the pro-OG posts is that a couple of them sound like freelance "PR." I found myself losing my patience with one "PR" and the really nasty name-calling of another yesterday afternoon, so I had to leave.

Curious is the one with the marvelous patience. I only wish I had as much.

After looking at the photos and talking to a couple of relatives of mine who have raced professionally, looks to us as if there was a suspension element failure.

Mel said the car "drifted off the road" and he didn't know why. If a tire blowout occurred the car would have suddenly lost its center and most any driver would have realized what happened. But a leak in pressure could cause a slower loss of center or a failure of a shock/strut or any number of suspension elements could have occurred. Italians KNOW cars. And his car had HIGHLY sophisticated onboard handling and correction features.

Looks like Mel Gibson's car by its very design helped him walk away and even limited the amount of damage to the vehicle.

This JD POWER link is actually for the sibling based on the Quattroport. These particular features would have been the same. Maserati didn't market any of the Quattroport models in US during 2008. So none of the normal sites I would find info had that particular year and model.

"•Derived from the Maserati Quattroporte Sedan"

"The GranTurismo S model features a 4.7-liter, 8-cylinder 4-valve engine rated at 440 hp. The larger powerplant is shared with the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. The transmission is an upgraded MC-Shift gearbox with a rear transaxle for better weight distribution, the manufacturer claims. Increasing stopping power, the brakes—borrowed from the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S—are oversized Brembo units with 6-piston calipers. Wheels and tires are upgraded accordingly.

The chassis, shared by both GranTurismo models, is comprised of a boxed-steel monocoque design. It has been engineered to serve as a rigid platform for the double-wishbone suspension components, fitted to both the front and rear of the vehicle. The shock absorbers utilize an available electronically controlled Skyhook Active Ride dampening system with aluminum gas struts to automatically monitor the road 100 times per second, and adapt the ride to the driver’s style. In addition, the Skyhook system has been engineered to incorporate sensory data from the transmission to briefly alter the suspension during shifting for smoother gear changes. The standard wheels are 19-inch aluminum alloy, wrapped in high-performance Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires specifically calibrated to work with the GranTurismo’s suspension, Maserati says.

The new, 2008 GranTurismo features the Maserati Stability Program (MSP) as standard equipment. It is designed to help correct skidding by engaging the integrated ABS and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) to assist the driver while bringing the vehicle back under control, the maker says. To increase nighttime visibility, the headlamps are bi-Xenon, with an adaptive motor to swivel the light with the turn of the steering wheel. A tire-pressure-monitoring system (TPMS) is also standard across the 2008 GranTurismo model range.

Passive safety systems in the GranTurismo are designed to help occupants avoid injury during an accident. The interior of the GranTurismo includes six air bags. Four crash sensors measure the intensity of the collision to inflate the air bags only when needed, and to calibrate the inflation pressures accordingly."

I also found this AFTER talking to my cousins. Wonder how this could or could not be relevant here:
