Dr. Ryan's Cause of Death -- Blunt Force Trauma

8/17/2010 3:54 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Dr. Frank Ryan died of "blunt force head injuries" ... this according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office ... which just completed an autopsy on the famous surgeon.

As for toxicology results ... officials tell TMZ the process usually takes "about 8 weeks" before anything can be determined.

As TMZ first reported, Dr. Ryan -- the surgeon who operated on a slew of famous Hollywood stars -- died yesterday after his Jeep veered off Pacific Coast Highway and rolled down a cliff.

If you have nothing nice to say STFU-silence is golden....
This Dr./Man/Human Being and Animal Lover lost his life and left many people behind who cared for him. People such as yourself love to antagonize others and if you had the $$ to change your looks you would be knocking at his door right behind them. So again, don't waste your time writing your immature messages. We are so done with you...... Have a Great Day!

I think every celebrity site is overlooking a BIG point. Do not text and drive.
I was hit by a texting driver(02/09) and my life hasn't been the same, chronic pain, spinal surgery, loss of job/income in health care.
The news stories say 48% of ADULTS admit to texting while driving. The focus has been on teens, because it is probably 2x greater. These people are on the roads and are truly the biggest risk to others, sometimes themselves, more so than drunks.
Texting and driving 'celebrity' deaths WILL surpass the amount of 'celebrity' prescription deaths and then maybe TMZ, Entertainment Tonight, and others will start focusing on the threat to life and livelihood.

I recently saw Dr. Ryan interviewed. I thought he looked very tired. I remember wondering if he was sick. From the Autopsy- Is it possible to know if he had an arrythmia prior to the crash? He had just hiked that giant sand dune, and said it wasn't easy. It is just hard to believe that this brilliant surgeon made such a stupid mistake.

Mr. Bate

His cause of death was from NOT PAYING ATTENTION to what he was supposed to be doing and the resulting consequences. If he had another chance, I wonder if he would have been a little more careful? Damn, its great to be ALIVE!

Texting/Tweeting or anything else that can divert your attention away from the responsibility assumed when behind the wheel, is never acceptable.Lesson learned -- again. RIP

It is sad to hear of anyone dying in a car crash and what caused it really has no bearing on that. But, on the subject of texting while driving... drunk driving isn't as bad as someone texting while in the driver's seat. With drunk driving at least a drunk is driving, when someone is texting, no one is driving.
