Timbaland -- Cops APB: 'Possible Suicide Attempt'

8/25/2010 1:25 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Timbaland was the subject of a manhunt yesterday after his family believed he was so distraught over the theft of a $2 million piece of jewelry he might harm himself ... this according to law enforcement sources.

According to sources, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department put out a "possible suicide attempt" APB just before 5 PM PT yesterday.  A helicopter and squad cars went on the hunt for the rapper/producer's Escalade.

Here's what we're told happened ... Timbaland was on the phone earlier in the day with his brother-in-law ... deeply upset about something.  We're told one of the things that was eating at him was a theft at his Malibu residence a day before.  Someone had stolen a crazy expensive Jacob & Co. watch -- valued at $2 million -- and Timbaland suspected it might have been someone he trusted.

Timbaland left his home yesterday and began driving.  Family members couldn't locate him, became extremely worried and called the Sheriff's Department.

We're told the helicopter located the Escalade, ground crews pulled Timbaland over and began talking to him.  At some point they put Timbaland in a patrol car and took him to his residence, where they continued speaking with him and family members.

Deputies called for paramedics to come and evaluate Timbaland.  After the evaluation, paramedics determined Timbaland was not a threat to himself and left.

We're told the Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft of Timbaland's jewelry and they have possible suspects.

Timbaland's rep could not be reached for comment.

0825_timbaland_small_audioUPDATE: Timbaland just called into Ryan Seacrest's radio show, and confirmed someone stole something from him and that he was upset about it ... but says there was definitely no suicide attempt.

Timbaland said he simply took a drive to clear his head, when someone got a little too worried about him and called the cops.

Please get balanced! Of course it has everything to do with the fact that it was a 2 million dollar watch, don't be naive! Do you think he would react if he couldn't find his timex? Or if he was missing a $10 book?

The answer is NO! We have all had things missing from people we trust, whether it's a sister who 'borrows' jeans, or a friend who never returns that book that was borrowed. We get over it!

This had everything to do with the 2 million dollar price tag! He deserved it. That bling is disgusting, and men of class wear simple watches. Even Warren Buffet wears a Timex.

Bling is crass, and trashy. Misplaced priorities, clearly!

Timbo, you need to fire that bitch of a wife for reporting that bull****,when anyone truly paying attention, would realize that it was obviously your brother in-law that stole the watch from you,or at least that's who you suspect did it.You called him to check his ass, then his bi*ch of a sister tried to check her husband for her brother, and tried to set you up. That's why I say that if you don't know a bi*ch b4 the fame & money, then DON'T marry her after your already famous. You WILL end up with a gold digger EVERY TIME GUARANTEED!!

A 2 million dollar watch is definetly insured, so money isn't the issue it's trust.

The same thing with Tiger Woods wife, when trust is gone whats left?

A two million dollar watch is definetly insured. It's finding you can't trust your inner circle thats damaging.

The same thing happened with Elin Woods when she realized her husband couldn't be trusted. Thats just something you can't get back.

@lili #86 - my point was that his reaction was based on some sort of betrayal that we (the public) don't know the details of. You're making a sweeping generalization and going off what TMZ reports when you really don't know if he was just upset about something totally different. Furthermore, I'm sure there's a level of anger that your $2M piece of jewelry was stolen but all I was trying to point out was that people are calling him a dummy and shallow for wanting to kill himself simply over losing possession of his expensive jewelry. And I'm saying that's BS. TMZ framed it in such a way (as they often do) to get people to react and call this man stupid, shallow, etc.

So all I'm saying is look deeper than "oh it's just a dumb rapper that lost his bling and now he's going to kill himself because it was stolen even though he's worth millions" I mean really...does that make logical sense to you? If it does, then you truly just wanna be irrational.

Lastly, using your "examples," this piece of jewelry was BORROWED!! It was stolen!! So try again with the analogies...

I don't think the "bling" being stolen was the real reason he wanted to off himself. Most likely it was the fact that it was a trusted friend who betrayed him and stole the watch. You people have such one-track minds it's unbelievable.

I don't believe it. Why in the world would anyone with the kind of money Timberland has be distraught over a watch? Heck $2 mil to him is like $2 dollars to the average joe. And even if it was stolen by someone he trusted I highly doubt he would want to kill himself, more like kill them perhaps. Not that he would go through it of course. I'm just sayin'.

THIS CASE IS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN THE JAVON WALKER CASE BUT SIMILAR BECAUSE THEY BOTH GOT SOMETHING TAKEN FROM THEM. FOR ONE I SYMPATHIZE WITH TIMBALAND NOT ON THE FACT OF TAKIN MY LUFE BUT THE FACT THAT SOMEONE HAS TO STEAL FROM ME. GO MAKE YOUR OWN MONEY AND BUY YOUR OWN STUFF AS THIS RAPPER AND FOOTBALL PLAYER AS. IT'S HIS MONEY HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS TO DO WITH IT. IT IS NOT HIS JOB TO BUILD AMERICA!!!
