Movie Theater Playing 'Last Exorcism' Burns Down

9/4/2010 8:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A drive-in movie theater in Oklahoma burned down yesterday -- was it arson, a freak accident or the work of ... the devil?

See, this Tulsa landmark -- The Admiral Twin, which opened in 1951 -- was playing "The Last Exorcism." It was also playing "Predators," but those aren't real -- so we can rule them out as a suspect.

Bill French, Tulsa Fire Department public information officer, told the Tulsa World on Friday night that investigators were still not sure how the blaze started.

TMZ contacted the Tulsa Fire Department to see if they suspected a demon, someone possessed by a demon or even Satan himself had something to do with the blaze.

So far, no response.

"Let's get real, it's Oklahoma. I live here. It was burned down by some nutjob BECAUSE they were playing the movie, more than likely."

I grew up in the largest 'burb, Broken Arrow. Given the movie on the marquee, and the american-taliban inbreds who fill the state while hugging their bibles of pure ignorance and hate... the "religious nutjob" angle is also where I'm placing my bet.

It's also why I left after H.S. and have never looked back. Okies deserve every bit of contempt and mockery they bring upon themselves!

Wanna know where all the morons are, who keep insisting that Obama deserves to be hated because he's a Muslim? Look no further...

Wow...I just wanted to say that it's a shame that it burned down. Being a Tulsan myself, of course it hits closer to home than the average reader. But, all the mean remarks by fellow Tulsans arent called for. It makes us look bad; TMZ lives on joking about everything-nothing is taken seriously on TMZ. So, just take it with a grain of salt. Also, FYI, it's not an insurance scam - the structure was made of wood which made it almost impossible to insure. There was no insurance policy. It was just old, and bound to happen eventually whether by accident, lightening, or what have you.

This is an icon for Tulsans. I can remember my parents taking me there was a child and going there with friends as a teenager. I can remember taking my now ex-husband there on a date. I've taken my children there more than once. The last movie we saw was kung fu panda. I hadn't thought about going there this summer and now I'm sad I didn't. I really hope Tulsans pull together on this one and build this place back up. Tulsans have a bad habit of being inactive. We sat idly by when they tore down the Camelot hotel and when they dismantled Bells. I do hope that we do not let this history of inaction follow us with Admiral Twin.

I grew up in Tulsa and the Admiral Twin was part of our town's history and many family outings revolved around the drive-in theater. It's really sad that it burned down and I hope that they will restore it again. FYI, the theater used to show porn films back in the 80's and if those didn't burn down the screen, a crap rip off of the Exorcist certainly didn't.

It was also a historic landmark and the filming site for the 1983 movie "The Outsiders" with Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Diane Lane and Rob Lowe. It was the only drive in left in Tulsa we are hoping it will be rebuilt, it will definitely be missed.

I freaking hate TMZ now, this was a Tulsa ICON, a historical location, and they're cracking jokes about it? I'm sorry, I live in Tulsa, and I cried when I heard about this...it's no laughing matter, you jackasses! This was one of the last few drive in movie theaters in America, this was in VERY poor taste. I will not be watching your show anymore.

And thank you to those who understand, your kind words did not go unwritten! <3

Euphonic Dissonance

We're a progressive industrial music band from Tulsa, Oklahoma and it pains us to see so many other Tulsans upset over this blog. TMZ is doing what they do best - poking fun - they're good at it....and truthfully, it's funny that THE LAST EXORCISM was playing at the time of the accident. Yeah, I know it's a bit close to home but lighten up Tulsa. This is the publicity that we need and a chance to advertise to a national audience via TMZ's website. Let's use it while we have the chance.

Keep up the great work TMZ. It may have been a tragic event for those of us that live here but I’ve got to admit – your blog was very funny. Just keep doing what you do best. Tulsa will heal with time.
