Steven Slater -- Not Welcome Back at JetBlue

9/5/2010 9:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The Rosa Parks of flight attendants is no longer a flight attendant -- Steven Slater and JetBlue have gone their separate ways.

0905_steven_slater_BN_tmz
A spokeswoman for JetBlue says the two sides parted ways last week, but didn't elaborate on details.

Slater became a folk hero of sorts when he got into an alleged confrontation with an unruly passenger ... then grabbed two beers and high-tailed it off the plane via the plane's emergency slide.

Slater's account of what went down has since been called into question.

Let's not compare this alcoholic fruit-loop to Rosa Parks. Sheesh. I'm not even black and I am insulted by such a comparison.

Uh... Lest we forget, flight attendants are actually there as emergency personnel. Everything else they do is extra to keep busy during non-emergencies. There's a reason the typical flight attendant is calm, cool, and collected no matter how uncalm, uncool, and uncollected the passengers are. Would anybody really trust this guy to keep his cool in a real emergency? Didn't think so.

And TMZ - the comparison with Rosa Parks is so insulting. She kept her cool, he didn't. His over-the-top actions were representative of the other side of the Rosa Parks incident - the people who got apoplectic at the very thought of a black woman not giving up her seat for a white passenger on orders from the white bus driver. The only thing they have in common is that they both lost their jobs as a result of their individual incidents... But he had to be fired by any sensible airline, since he could not be trusted in an emergency (or obviously in any stressful situation). Rosa? She just calmly stayed in her seat.

@41 Rosa Parks HAD a point, the same can't really be said for Slater. That said, I reiterate that his story has not been corroborated by others on the flight (it's been refuted) and the passenger that allegedly attacked him can't be charged because no such passenger seems to exits.

"Like other posters, I find the comparison to Rosa Parks to be inaccurate and offensive. TMZ, please change this headline."

I agree, whoever the staff is that wrote this must needs to do a little bit of research. Well here are a few keywords to start with: ROSA PARKS, civil rights, Jim Crow, segregation, etc...

I have nothing against Steven Slater, but it is very disrespectful to compare him to Rosa Parks. TMZ staff, please #clockout

"41. Rosa Parks broke the law to make a point. So did Steven.
Posted at 5:02 PM on Sep 5, 2010 by She IS A Lezzie"

Rosa Parks refused to be forced to the back of the bus where society and the law said she had to sit because she was black. Wrap your little brain around that for a second before you try and compare Rosa Parks to a drama queen who had too much to drink and then threw a hissy fit.

I doubt even Steven Slater is such a giant douche bag that he'd compare his idiotic actions to the heroic stand for civil rights that Rosa Parks took. Slater wasn't making some sort of stand for homosexual rights so don't even go there. He's just an idiot who happens to be a homosexual.

Rosa Parks is humble enough to say that she defied authority simply because her feet hurt after a long day at work and she just didn't feel like walking to the back of the bus that day. But I think we can all appreciate that she was simply fed up. And not fed up because someone was rude to her that day, but fed up because in a land dedicated to freedom she was being treated as a second class citizen.

The lesson here is therefold:

1. Neither segregation nor oppression is to be tolerated in a country where all citizens are recognized as being created equal.

2. Don't piss off a black woman with sore feet.

3. Emotionally unstable flight attendants shouldn't drink on the job.

Ex-Fricking-Scuse Me? I'm a whitey and totally can't believe you used the name of Rosa Parks in any context for this diva. Rosa Parks pretty much risked life and limb just to be recognized as a person. This a&&hole pretty much didn't. Please ... PUHLEEZE don't link him in any way to Rosa Parks.
