Joe Montana has some issues with the way his former college team was portrayed in "Rudy" -- because the former Notre Dame superstar just insinuated Rudy Ruettiger was more of a joke than an inspiration. 
Montana -- who played on the 1975 Fighting Irish squad with Ruettiger -- appeared on DirecTV's Dan Patrick Show this morning and said of the flick, "It's a movie remember ... not all that's true."
After a dismissive sigh, Montana undermined some of the main storylines in the movie saying, "The crowd wasn’t chanting … nobody threw in their jerseys."
Montana acknowledged that the real Rudy did play in the final home game ... and did get a sack -- but stated that when the players carried Rudy off the field, they were "kinda playin' around ... I won't say as a joke, but playing around."
Joe finished, "He worked his butt off to get where he was ... but not any harder than anybody else."

So Joe, now that you're a washed up has been, you are getting your kicks tearing down people? Who cares if there was some poetic liscense taken when they made the movie? Even without it, the story was a good one and it portrayed a positive message. Were you jealous the film maker didn't focus in exclusively on your PAST exploits? Any film maker for that matter? You are plenty old enough now.... grow up.

I hope Joe is equally objective about his sons play (or lack of) now that he has finally gotten to ND via Pasadena City College. And while we're at it Joe, how about giving Barry Manillow his face back?
What a disappointment! I agree with the others that this is too little too late. How many kids could relate to Rudy, and never relate to Joe Montana? That is what this "movie" was about. Rudy played and that is a fact that cannot be denied. He made the practice team, right? Joe, sorry but you have really fallen in my estimation for these comments. You do not raise yourself up by dragging someone else down. Shame on you. How many high school kids held onto the fact that Rudy did get to play one play? How many kids still believe in the possiblitities that Rudy strived for? Not everyone can be the quarterback, play and win Super Bowls, but everyone can dream of having that one chance. Go Irish!

Why is Joe the idiot? He is just telling the TRUTH, Its Hollywood you should be mad at for making you believe in a LIE! I didn't think Rudy was a hero on the team either, even though the story and movie was AWESOME I know how Hollywood likes to put their own spin on things to sell tickets.

What a moron. I dont know why anyone would have to dispute this being close to 20 years after the movie came out. The guy obviously worked hard and we will leave it at that. Look at Montanta's son im sure he wouldnt be where he is today if it wasent for daddy. Stuck up losers like this always trying to hold the hard working man back.
