Joe Montana Tears Holes in 'Rudy'

Joe Montana has some issues with the way his former college team was portrayed in "Rudy" -- because the former Notre Dame superstar just insinuated Rudy Ruettiger was more of a joke than an inspiration.

Montana -- who played on the 1975 Fighting Irish squad with Ruettiger -- appeared on DirecTV's Dan Patrick Show this morning and said of the flick, "It's a movie remember ... not all that's true."

After a dismissive sigh, Montana undermined some of the main storylines in the movie saying, "The crowd wasn’t chanting … nobody threw in their jerseys."

Montana acknowledged that the real Rudy did play in the final home game ... and did get a sack -- but stated that when the players carried Rudy off the field, they were "kinda playin' around ... I won't say as a joke, but playing around."

Joe finished, "He worked his butt off to get where he was ... but not any harder than anybody else."

Is this an old post? like from the early 90s. Hopefully Joe montana doesn't die anytime soon, would be embarrassing for him to have this story be our last impression of him.

1) I hope Joe realizes that he's acting like a total tool. The only thing Rudy Ruettiger got out of his Notre Dame experience, after all that work, was playing 2 downs in 1 game. Let the guy have his moment, Joe; you had more than enough other moments. Complaining that someone else got the spotlight instead of you shows you to be the creep that you are.

2) What do you want to bet that this has to do with some promotion/book that Joe is getting ready to promote? With his comments, he's already shown that he's an attention whore; I'll bet he's doing this modified version of the "ho stroll" to get attention for something he's promoting...

Wow. Bitter old man much? He's just PO'd at Notre Dame because his son STILL isn't a starter on the football team this year. And his kid is racking up an arrest record while away at school, dragging the Montana name down further at the old alma mater.

Joe, It was a MOVIE.. If you really had issues with it why not say it like in 1993 when it came out. Have you been harboring this hostility for all these years, are you bitter they didn't name you in thte film? It was an inspirational movie.. were there liberties in the filming.. who cares, I guess only you..

Who cares - it just doesn't matter. There are more important things to care about - like why are America's children starving -

I agree fully with the other comments here about you Joe.

What a shame that you've now tarnished your reputation and fame by downgrading a fellow player and great movie like Rudy. So what if the movie isn't technically correct to every little detail. I can't think of any movie that is absolutely 100% accurate.

Back when you were first making fame and money for yourself after college, I never heard a bad word about you from Rudy. Did you ever think to extend a helping hand to him or other players who weren't as well off as you?? I seriously doubt that.

So, now for you to criticise Rudy and the movie, it makes you look jealous and petty. In this day and age of recession and other depressing matters, People need a 'feel good' movie and hero like Rudy! Shame, shame, shame on you!

My in-laws went to college with Joe Montana. Everyone hated him. He was a giant douchebag. Yeah, he was a great football player, but that didn't mean he wasn't a miserable human being.
