Susan Boyle Walks Off 'America's Got Talent'

9/8/2010 8:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has learned Susan Boyle has left Los Angeles in tears after being snubbed by a songwriter who refused to let her sing one of his hits on "America's Got Talent."

Susan arrived to L.A. earlier today to perform the song "Perfect Day" on the show.

Sources connected to the show tell TMZ ... producers needed permission from the songwriter, Lou Reed -- the former lead singer for The Velvet Underground and famous for "Walk on the Wild Side" --  but at the last minute they were informed that Reed refused permission because he isn't a Boyle fan.

When Boyle found out, she dissolved into tears -- unprepared to change her tune for the show.

We're told Boyle went to LAX this afternoon -- still in tears -- and is catching a flight back to London.

"America's Got Talent" refused to comment.

Maybe he would have made some $ and he could have:

a. bought a razor blade to shave
b. go to the Dentist (teeth are worn down almost to the bone)
c. go buy groceries (looks emanciated)
d. go to a Barber (needs a hair wash & cut)
e. go to the eye doctor (one eye seems to be "TURNING" involuntarily to the right. And his eyewear is bent

And the list could go on and on, on this, has been but never will be again.

Hitch-hiked her way across the USA
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
Hey honey
Take a walk on the wild side

Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets
Lookin' for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
You should've seen em go go go
They said, Hey shuga Take a walk on the wild side
I Said, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
All right, huh

Lou Reed is a douche of epic proportions so this does not surprise me.
But so is AGT as the only way he can "refuse" the use of his song if they were trying to negotiate a reduced public performance rate and he wouldn't take a cut and they were unwilling to pay the full statutory rate.

Lou Reed : "I'm not a fan of Susan Boyle". Well, Louis...., I guess you are also not a fan of MONEY. Not only would he get paid for Susan's performance, but that performance possible could have increased interest in his form of Boho-rock and sold more music which equals more money. Take a walk in the wild side was a long-a** time ago, LOUIS!!!

Wow. Lou Reed looks like the before image in a Restylane advert, you know, the drug the re-inflates the face of people with HIV who've been suffering that fat-redistribution problem. Hmmmm. Has Laurie Anderson been tested for HIV ya think ?!?
Anyway, Lou Reed needs the publicity from this, because any publicity is better than no publicity.
Susan Boyle ... live and learn from this ... best you prepare to sing an alternate song in the future on such gigs to avoid emotional turmoil.

Lou Reed is a legend and I salute him for having keeping his integrity. He wrote the song and has the right to keep some mediocre hack from giving it 'jazz hands'. He's not another slave to the spin doctors crowing about the bottom line and the status quo. California Uber Alles!

I thought Perfect Day was a song released as a Live Aid song years ago by many, many singers - or am I thinking of the wrong song hm?! It was amazing at the time, however Lou Reed's refusal to let Susan Boyle sing it on America's Got Talent because he isn't a fan is so hypocritical!! Subo's voice is good and she would have sung the song well, perhaps better than some of the original artists involved lol!!
I agree with another comment though, I thought he was dead too years ago - oh well Lou at least we know you're alive, a douche but alive lol!!!

It's not like he doesn't have his price. He let ATT use it for an Olympics commercial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCymRC7cZTk&feature=related

I guess the price for this kind of sellout was too much.

Having Susan Boyle singing that song would just be....wrong. Coming from Reed it was laced with irony and pain. She would do some silly operatic version interpreting it like it's a happy song.

Lou Reed has a lousy voice yet he made some iconic songs...at least for my generation. I just saw him a few years ago and he was fantastic. His voice never got any worse.

That just goes to show you that everybody doesn't care that much about money. If he doesn't like her he doesn't like her and he stood by his morals and didn't let her sing his song. Now if she was a real pro she would have said ok and picked another song instead of acting like a 5 yr old. I don't see the big deal over her. geesh!!

Lou Reed is an *******. On the other hand the old fart is likely suffering from dementia or brain damage from the decades of drug use, so I cut him a little slack for that.
