Meg Whitman on Gloria's 'Evidence' -- Not So Fast

9/30/2010 7:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Meg Whitman's husband just admitted it's "possible" he saw the letter that Gloria Allred claims proves Meg is a "liar" -- but Meg's camp now claims ... the letter actually HELPS Whitman.

Earlier today, Gloria produced a letter the Social Security Administration -- sent to Whitman's house in 2003 -- a letter Meg said she nor her husband ever received.

But Gloria fired back ... the letter contains a handwritten note from Meg's husband to the housekeeper -- proving they not only received the letter, but knew their housekeeper was in the U.S. illegally.

Meg's husband, Dr. Griff Harsh, now says while it's "possible" he scribbled on the letter ... "it's important to note what this letter actually says: 'this letter makes no statement about your employee's immigration status."

During a phone interview moments ago, Meg's camp further explained how the letter "completely contradicts the conclusions" made by Allred ... CLICK HERE to listen.

So we gotta ask...

You know what's crazy? How many TMZ readers automatically know who Gloria Allred is. Seriously, that's pretty bizarre. And especially when they throw random political names out there like Rose Bird -- go look it up, it's supposed to tie into Jerry Brown from 25 years ago.

Yeah, sure, all these people talking about Gloria Allred and how horrible she is, just a coincidence that its the same strategy the Meg Whitman campaign is taking -- discredit Gloria Allred, tie it to her opponent's campaign if she can. They all say the same thing -- I'm voting for Meg because of this Gloria Allred person (whom they mysteriously know so much about). More than half of the posts here are full of that same spin/reasoning/logic. Pretty sure the Meg Whitman campaign is trying to drown the boards with this as some type of (sadly, too obvious) defense.

"Just because the letter doesn't specify the maid's legal status being an issue doesn't mean they should have just glanced at it and gave it to the maid to "check on." What is the maid supposed to do with it? The letter wasn't for the maid it was for Meg Whitman. The more Whitman and her camp talk the more they confirm how stupid they are."

Actually, let's all get the facts right on this. When an employer gets this letter, this is what they are legally supposed to do:
Check it for typographical errors in their record keeping, pass it to the employee to investigate. They're not allowed under criminal penalty to investigate further, or require the employee to submit more information. So they were legally bound, they couldn't do more. Had they fired her on the spot, that's a HUGE lawsuit. The Whitmans in this case legally could not do more than they did.

So please, guys, check the facts before coming to erroneous conclusions.

That Mexican is a liar, and has committed fraud. Why has she not been arrested....oh wait I forget, California doesn't follow federal laws.

Meg being such a power woman overseeing such a large company surprises me that when a red flag comes up, it is not investigated and it surprises me that when she decided to run for gov, the maid suddenly decided after all those years to just come up and say, by the way I am illegal... very suspicious specially during campaigning... I do believe that Meg must of known and must of been trying to clean up her act to avoid allegations about undo***ented workers when she strongly apposes it... I would believe her story if her maid was only employed for a year or so but 9 years is too much time for me to think she didnt know...
