NBA Coach -- Is That a Swastika in Your Tie???

10/1/2010 8:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Now we're in no way implying that Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott is a Nazi ... but, the tie he decided to wear for his team's media day ... well, let's just say, it went out of style in the mid-40's.

At one time it meant peace and stability. But he probably didn't notice it. I can only imagine how many ties he has, probably had it for 10 years and wore it twice.

Good to see that most people posting on here aren't morons. Like others have said, the symbol existed in many cultures and religions (Navajo, Indian, Buddhist, Baltic, etc) well before Hitler used it. They shouldn't have to stop using it just because one idiot used it in a negative way. It's time to educate the world and remove the negative connotations around the thing. For God's sake, we allow kids to walk around with mass murderers Che)and symbols of other oppressive regimes (CCCP, Hammer and sickle)on their t-shirts, but as soon as we see an ancient, sacred symbol that 9.5 times out of 10 has a positive meaning, it's a huge offensive mistake/embarrassment and must be stopped. Ridiculous.

Agreed! black people get too many free passes, if this was some white dude wearing that tie, he´d be burning in hell right now, oh, but since he´s black it is obviously Tmz´s fault, right?

And yes this symbol has a much older story than nazis and it is still used in Reiki, still we immediately relate it to the nazis because all of the people that died during that time, all the crimes against human kind, and all the countries that did nothing for them, it is hard to forget that the meaning of this sysmbol has changed because of all the blood that it has run through the streets because of the people who wore it, so even if it has a more peaceful meaning it is still disrespectful to wear it, because it´s meaning has changed!

Are Mel Gibson and his dad designing ties?

I would be more interested to know who is the maker of the tie. That might explain the design.

There are plenty of current ties like that and they are of Indian design.

The sad part about this story is if Byron were white, he'd lose his job and probably have to move out of the country after the media finished with him!

I sure he didn't wear in on purpose, but I would LOVE to know who made the tie! The designer/manufacturer needs to catch hell for letting that design pass.

It's a great tie, and any connection to Nazism is nonsense. Thanks to all the educated posts here.

I would like to know where I can get this same tie. I want to buy one right now.
