The Quaids' Arrest Could Mean Death for Doggie

10/26/2010 9:45 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

There was a third Quaid in the car when Evi and Randy were arrested in Canada last week ... their beloved pooch Doji ... and TMZ has learned he could pay for his master's sins ... with his life.

Quaids arrested.

While Evi and Randy are still "in detention" after being nabbed on an active arrest warrant ... we've learned Doji has been placed in an animal shelter in Vancouver for the time being.

But Doji's days could be numbered -- because according to Vancouver law, any dog that has been impounded for more than 72 hours becomes city property ... and the pound keeper is then given the authority to "destroy, or sell by auction or private sale, an impounded dog."

We spoke to someone at Animal Control in Vancouver who told us they "make every effort to not put the dogs to sleep" ... and generally try to find the animals a home through adoption.

Still, look at this face (the one on the left) ... someone better act fast.

It would not surprise me at all if someone adopted this particular dog. But this situation points out that people's behavior has an effect over much more than people often think. Keep your nose clean, or someone else (or Fido) is going to get hurt.

I will take her! I love you, Doji. You are beautiful. You have a powerful bunch of dog lovers here at TMZ. They can put pressure on them to find you a home. PLEASE, Harvey. Don't let her just die...

This one seriously baffles me. Is there by any chance a film crew following them?. I would guess the reclusive brother probably extended a helping hand but was rejected.

Really, you Mile Zone dorks. Give the name/number of the Vancouver animal control center. Doji will likely be saved...

Are you sure about that, TMZ? The dog isn't a "stray" - he has an identified owner. The dog is likely in protective custody remaining property of the Quaids until one of three things happens: the Quaids appoint another party to care for him, a hearing is held about the dog's ownership, or the Quaids release his ownership to the humane society.

With that said, there are many dogs and cats abandoned at local shelters across the US (and Canada, too) who need an adopter right this very moment. Maybe you should run their mug instead...they need it.

This right here is no joke. The Quaid's are the latest victims of the harsh reality of our time. Believe them when they say Hollywood is killing off there stars, they have been doing it a long time, and enough is enough!

I have a hard time believing this story because, all of the animal shelters that I know of in Vancouver have NO KILL policies.

I love the internet. All the dumb, poorly educated Americans come out of the woodwork and comment on the way things are in Canada, a country they know nothing about.

Harvey, you HAVE to do something about this! This is unacceptable for an animal to suffer. Think of the PR (I'll donate to help with costs)!
