'Sound of Music' Actor: They Left Me Out Of Reunion

10/30/2010 10:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Daniel Truhitte -- who played the young Nazi soldier Rolfe in "The Sound of Music" -- is screaming from the hilltops ... devastated he wasn't invited to the "Music" reunion special on "Oprah."

Daniel's lederhosen are in a wad over the "Oprah" special that aired on Thursday -- which was billed as the first time in 45 years that the "entire cast" has been in the same place. O featured all eight members of the Von Trapp family, plus Julie Andrews.

But Daniel -- who played the love interest of Liesl Von Trapp and famously sang "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" -- tells TMZ he doesn't understand why he was left out, saying "I was the male juvenile lead, a main part of the story ... it's beyond me."

Daniel groused, "How can you not include Rolfe?"

A rep for the show tells TMZ, "Our show was a reunion of the von Trapp 'family.' Mr. Truhitte's character was not part of that group."

omg! Leisel and Rolf were my favorites, (until he went bad in the movie) As a young girl, "Sixteen going on Seventeen" was my favorite song, he did an excellent job on it, and he is a crucial part of the story. Shows how shallow and naive Oprah can be!

I would have liked to see him on the show. I don't know he was slighted but it would have been good to see as many cast members as possible.

The actors playing the Von Trapps aside, most of the other supporting players (Peggy Wood, Portia Nelson, Anna Lee, Ben Wright, Norma Varden, Gilchrist Stuart and of course Richard Haydn) are dead. Eleanor Parker is alive and living in retirement in Palm Springs. Daniel Truhitte is living in North Carolina. Marni Nixon (who played Sister Sophia) is also still alive and working in NYC.

I happened to catch the show and was wait a second, someone is missing. Where's Rolfe?

What's the point of just having the family of a movie and not the ENTIRE cast? Especially a movie that has had such impact and longevity. I remember Rolfe, his story with the eldest girl was a big part of the story and they even had that solo, right? They should have had everyone from the movie. Oprah is silly.

Being a musical and that he had one of the major songs he would be considered the next principal male role (behind Christopher Plummer of course). Given the way the show was advertised, of course he has a complaint. Of course, he would be hurt.

And I'm sure many people enjoyed seing those actors together. Why belittle something just because you don't like it?

I was wondering why he wasn't invited too. He was one of the characters that appeared a lot in the movie. It would have been nice to see him reunited with the actress who played Liesl Von Trapp. Too bad they couldn't get it together for just a little verse of a song :) Julie Andrews can still sing some of the low notes.
