Miley Cyrus -- Under Fire for Beer Consumption

11/6/2010 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Miley Cyrus put herself and others at risk this week by indulging in that ice cold Corona at a nightclub in Spain ... this according to an international alcohol awareness organization.

Even though officials in Spain told us 17-year-old Miley didn't break any laws ... the head of the International Institute for Alcohol Awareness, James E. Copple, is concerned other young people will follow her lead and engage in "risky behavior associated with underage alcohol consumption."

Copple tells us, "The young people that see her as a role model could mimic the same behavior and as a consequence will go out and become intoxicated, putting their safety at risk."

Copple noted ... according to his organization, "85% of young people who drink, drink to get intoxicated."

So we gotta ask ...

This is what causes so-called Disney Stars to melt down. The scrutiny and pressured society places upon them to maintain a distorted and ultimately unattainable image of clean-cut perfection. You want to know what happened to Demi Lavato? This certainly has something do with it. This notion that these very young people who we anoit as "Disney Darlings" can't be normal or human or ever make mistakes. Society tells them that they have to be somehow above human and anything else is unacceptable. We have set them up in such a way so that all they can do in the end is fail.

The drinking part is not that serious. Her parents basically have her paying the bills. She is just growing up way too fast. Girl slow down before you end up looking 40 at 20 like Lindsay!

The legal drinking almost everywhere else on the planet is between 16-18. I have lived on three continents now and America has the worst drinking problem. If you make it legal and not a bid deal then it doesn't become as much of a problem.

Miley Cyrus has been over for months now. I bet she has a bunch of sex tapes ready for release as soon as she turns 18.

People in this country need to take responsibility for their own childrens' decisions and stop blaming the Stars for them! If you don't raise your chidren right, of course they are going to be influenced by what they see these young stars do! Teach them right from wrong, what your values are, and what you expect from them and they may just surprise you, and do they right thing!

I think people in this country need to start taking resposibility for their own childrens actions and stop blaming it on what they have seen STARS DO! If you raise your children right, they will make the right decisions. If you let the TV and the stars on it raise them, then they will make the Wrong decisions everytime.

Uh who cares. Parents need to take responsibility for their own kids? If she had a beer, she wasn't breaking the law of Spain. Enough already!

I have to strongly agree with #37, teenagers need to be taught how to drink responsibly because a high percentage of them will try some sort of alcohol before they are legally allowed to and will most likely take it too far and become intoxicated. In New Zealand where I am from, the legal drinking age is also 18, but from the age of 16 my parents allowed me to have a beer in their presence on occasions such as my birthday etc I think that was a smart way of going about it, the same goes for my siblings, because we were allowed the odd drink here and there it held no appeal for us. If you are told not to do something that is when you want to do it even more, so to this day I go years without a single drink and I thank my parents for that. It is not Miley's responsibility to teach our kids, someone else also made a comment about role model's, I find it strange that someone would base their role model on someone that they have never met before.

i get so sick of hearing how actors should watch what they do because kids look up to them. they are not these kids babysitters!!! the parents need to do something about it because it puts so much presure on stars an it can drive them crazier then they already are........mom and dad watch your kids!!! you had them not hollywood!

This is rediculas. I work at a DUI and Drug abuse clinic. I do feel that no matter where she is at, she should obey the laws in drinking 100%. If it is 17, then 17, if she is in the US, then 21. I have no problem if she drinks at 17 if she is in another country and that is their laws. That has little realistic effect on kids. Kids drink underage not becouse they see Miley do it. It becouse the other kids do it for fun.

Wrong! This happened in Spain, where having a Corona at 17 is considered fine. (...)

and that's exactly what I said in my previous post. Now you please read carefully from now on and participate diligently or don't participate at all.

sorry , read my posts again. you'll see.

IIAA what's the point?

the IIAA position is wrong and here's why:

drinking a beer in Spain is legal for a 17 yo and that's a fact

They are concerned about the diffusion of the image? good then sue TMZ for publishing . Coming out after the fact with zero impact brings the suspicion that they are after publicity.

Now what they should do is to push to change the Law in Spain or prevent the publication of the picture. Instead what they do? Scream (on the media) changing nuthing in reality.

and I still have to know from the Copple guy (who said that they did push to change the Law in Spain)

any news? no news? where is the proof of that push?

also do you get paid? please don't forget to answer that too

Big Daddy #113

My point here is that Daddy treated Miley more like a wife than a daughter. I didn't mean it literally. Had he given his wife that attention, I don't think she would have gone anywhere.
