Miley Cyrus -- Under Fire for Beer Consumption

11/6/2010 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Miley Cyrus put herself and others at risk this week by indulging in that ice cold Corona at a nightclub in Spain ... this according to an international alcohol awareness organization.

Even though officials in Spain told us 17-year-old Miley didn't break any laws ... the head of the International Institute for Alcohol Awareness, James E. Copple, is concerned other young people will follow her lead and engage in "risky behavior associated with underage alcohol consumption."

Copple tells us, "The young people that see her as a role model could mimic the same behavior and as a consequence will go out and become intoxicated, putting their safety at risk."

Copple noted ... according to his organization, "85% of young people who drink, drink to get intoxicated."

So we gotta ask ...

Miley's 17 - drinking age in Spain is 18, I think. So, she WAS breaking the law.

She is only visible to young people because people such as yourselves follow her around and take pictures. You said yourself she didnt break any laws. STOP TRYING TO MAKE UP NEWS.

Really? Putting others in danger by drinking a beer? If 85% of young people drink to get intoxicated, then doesn't her drinking ONE beer (obviously no intoxication) help your cause? Seriously, people in this country have all the wrong approaches to drinking. If you forbid it, and all you tell your kids is that it's bad... well guess what they won't know how to handle themselves when they do drink (and they will drink). Instead let them have that glass of wine with dinner, let them have a beer now and then, and teach them that drinking shouldn't be to get drunk. I'm extremely disappointed that this has become such a huge issue, don't these organizations have anything better to do than to browse tabloid pics and comment on the trivial?

Who cares? I mean really, I didn't know many kids who were perfect teenagers when I was growing up, she may be 17 but no one is perfect and in my opinion she is being a normal teenager. Everyone goes through a rebellious stage in their life and eventually she will outgrow it. Now if she starts using drugs then she ain't acting like a normal teen anymore lol then I can see people getting their panty's in a twist but people need to just let Miley be Miley and quit worrying about what Miley's doing and quit judging. If anyone is seriously outraged on this please get mental help because you probably have issues. I'm not standing up for anyone, I just think people are a little dramatic about things sometimes. Hey, she isn't your kid so don't stress it.

when i went on a school trip to europe in high school, the administration sent out permission slips asking parents if we were allowed to drink. i was very confused- that is, until we got there, and i saw beer on the menu at mcdonalds, and preteens at a street festival drinking wine. the more times i visited, the more used i got to it- because here's a shocker: europe isn't america. *GASP!* it's a different culture, and their norms are not ours. they do **** there that we don't. that's why we visit- to experience different things. god. the more and more i hear about "organizations" pulling this ****, the more i want to become canadian.

She has never had any upbringing, she has been posing semi nude, grinding on older men, god knows what else she has been doing. She just does not set a very good example for teen age girls. She will be posing in playboy next once she turns 18.

Laffn Bear

Another product of the Disney star factory.
No sense of personal responsibility, no parental control, subject to the influence of adults that surround her. Sound familiar?
One more victim of her own misbehavior.
She will be in the celebrity news for years to come. Until she is down and out or finally wakes up to face the music.
The wiser of us will stand by and watch the continuing downward spiral.
Maybe Lilo can influence her?
What a joke in the making.

To those uninformed individuals who are challenging us to change the laws - we have in fact been working on changing the laws. Most European countries have 18 as the minimum drinking age. Cyrus is 17. The establishment broke the law by allowing an underage individual to be in possession of alcohol. When celebraties, politicians, athletes or others parade this type of behavior they normalize it for their following. Hello - look at the apparel industry or any advertising using celebraties as spokespersons. Yeah, this Copple guy is about saving lives - join the cause. 100,000 people a year die in the United States do to the misuse of alcohol. See

The kid has done a fantastic job with her life so far. Acting, singing you name it. She is also pretty hot. Far be it for me to criticize her over drinking a beer. It was legal where she was and that is all that counts. If you're in a country that allows alcohol to people over 16/17 then she did nothing illegal. A lot of jealous fools on this website, guys enjoy killing yourselves out there working menial jobs or you ladies who are having to stay with some fat loser husband who supports you. Leave this chick alone, she could buy you all 1 million times over.

The world would not know of this and does not need to know of this incident. It can only be construed as a bad example of "news reporting". Once again Harvey shows no judgement in how TMZ interacts with the world.
With all of the problems with the current administration, we would all be better served, if you covered stories that affect the future of this country.

If the kids are that influenced by a little picture of her with a drink you have to look at whomever the parents are. That is their jobs to parent and it is not the media. Parents need to pay attention.

When I was a teen, I drink. People would be foolish to think that a teenager has never touched a drink. Sure they want to make this girl the next Spears or Lohan. The media is truly pushng this and its sad. Honestly, she is only doing what other teenagers have done. I have seen worst and its not in Hollywood. People need to look into their own homes. The world of a teen is not all peachy and full of roses.
