Cam Newton Drama Ignites FBI Investigation

11/9/2010 7:12 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ Sports has confirmed ... the FBI has requested a meeting with a key figure in the Cam Newton college football recruiting controversy to find out if, "young men are being shopped to colleges."

Cam Newton NCAA investigation:

The man feds want to speak with is John Bond -- a former Mississippi State football star. Last week, Bond claimed people connected to Heisman front-runner Cam Newton contacted him back in 2009 and said it would take $180,000 to get Cam to commit to MSU.

Newton eventually committed to Auburn University, where he's now one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

Bond's attorney confirms to TMZ Sports that the FBI has requested a sit-down meeting with his client -- and tells us the agent who contacted him said, "We are interested in whether young men are being shopped to colleges."

Newton has denied any wrongdoing -- and reps for Auburn have stated that Newton remains eligible to play and will start this weekend against Georgia.

Auburn has not be implicated in all of this mess...the death penalty is wishful thinking. Did something take place at MSU,I have no doubt. However, someone calling someone else and having that person call someone else is a far cry from all of the other garbage out there. When, not if, but when it comes out that these men acting on there on without the consent of the Newton's...I hope they hire the best of the best lawyers!

It's funny how this came out when we are10-0......also if he was academic in trouble than that means he was not suppose to be playing football at florida....meaning they should have to forfeit the games he was in...So they should have never been playing for the national title......people are quick to point the finger as of now it's allegations and yes urban and mullens should have known that then........

Aside from that MSU was traveling to a memorial service for their teammate that DIED TRAGICALLY last week when this story broke, so it was NOT MSU who broke this story, who leaked this story, etc...

If Cam cheated at UF, then why was MSU continuing to recruit him? If Cam's Dad accepted money, then why is it that his church still lacks being up to code and no services are being held in it? If Bond's story is the truth, then why did he recant it later. Folks, this is a smear campaign plain and simple and before it's over, some heads are going to roll and some lawsuits are going to be filed. Oh yes, did our compliance committee fu-k up too? I doubt it.

What's with all the conspiracy theories by Auburn fans. Cam is a phenomenal athlete, but with a history that would support accepting money. He had the stolen laptop incident, about 17 traffic violations, and put his name on another student's report. Hardly a character that is being defamed.
It's not looking good for Auburn, and when you do something stupid - don't blame others.

This is so funny--what a CIRCUS!! This is a fine example of what goes on in the SEC (Seems Everybody Cheats) Conference!!! Vanderbilt is the only team in the SEC that has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing in that god all mighty conference. The "better than everybody else conference"...my god, the billion dollar TV contracts the SEC has unfairly got from ESPN and CBS only brings greater temptation to cheat. And, oh yeah how does Auburn fans (fans in general for that matter) come to bat for an "innocent" young Cam--please!! He was at a school in thugsville, that allows criminal misconduct, 35 arrests under Urbie!! Cam "allegedly" stole a laptop (from a fellow student), cheated (allegedly) on three (that is correct, 1, 2 3) academic tests, was facing expulsion from the UF (University of Felons), but with the advice from his Minister Father decided an escape to a junior college in Texas would be payment for his "sins", and now he is (was) up for the Heisman??? Yeah we all make mistakes "growing up" but, after one or two "mistakes" life begins to hold us liable for "our" lying, stealing, cheating ways!!! This is just funny to watch, it is blowing up in the faces of the SEC, University of Felons, Miss St, the mnister and his son!!

While I don't approve of this situation, if true, what can you
expect when our government officials are probably guilty of much more. When specific requests are added on to a simple bill, their vote can be bought, with no penalty . Personal and pleasure expenses are tacked on to their expense account with no penalty, and so on. I certainly hope it is not true.

If all of this smoke turns out to be untrue, I hope charges are brought against all parties involved in the "slandering" of a young man. And anyone responsible for leaking the Florida grades/cheating issue and the selling of a talented young man to a college all comes out to be rumors or gossip, all parties should be punished-financially and with charges that will make other people think twice before the accuse someone without knowing the truth!

Is Joe Mendes, the sidekick to Pete Carroll while all the players were running around getting freebies at USC, the liason for between those players and the agents, involved anywhere in this mix? Seems like he and Pete got to walk away with no damage and this sounds like another one of his shena****ns...
