Katherine Jackson's Secret Contract

11/12/2010 9:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Katherine Jackson has been bitterly complaining the Michael Jackson Estate is not giving her enough money, and now we know what she's done to supplement her income in a big way.

TMZ has obtained a contract Katherine signed with Vintage Pop Media (VPM), the company that owns tens of thousands of photos, videos and other MJ items.  Under the deal -- which is not sanctioned by the MJ Estate -- Katherine agreed to participate in the production of "The Katherine Jackson Story," some sort of MJ documentary set to music.  Katherine also agreed to pen the book that was just released, "Never Can Say Goodbye."

In return for her work, VPM -- owned by her controversial business partner Howard Mann -- agreed to pay Katherine 25% of the net profits with a minimum monthly guarantee of $10,000-a-month.  But here's what's really interesting ... there's no end date for the $10-grand-a-month, so if you read the contract literally, VPM agrees to pay Katherine at least $10k-a-month for the rest of her life.

And get this.  The contract also says Katherine has the legal right to "forever bind" Michael's kids, Prince, Paris and Blanket.  According to sources familiar with the MJ Estate, Katherine does not have the power to contractually bind Michael's kids.

Katherine is already raking in $26,000-a-month from the MJ Estate, but she's complaining she wants more.  Looks like she found it.

Howard Mann tells TMZ, "This is one of several agreements with Mrs. Jackson. This was a starting point in our relationship."

Thank you mjuls!
I knew that it was not legally possible to bind the minor children to a contract of this sort.

Thank you again mjuls for your reply.
I'm looking forward hearing your opinion of the contact.
I assume there were no legal presentation on Katherine or VPN side when this contract was drafted and signed!
Any ideas what children's ad litem would/should react for this bit "The contract also says Katherine has the legal right to "forever bind" Michael's kids, Prince, Paris and Blanket"?

You’re welcome, CloBird. While such an agreement would NEVER be upheld by a court of law, the notion of anyone entering into a purportedly “legally” binding contract that aims to “forever bind” another individual(s), especially minors, is very disturbing.

FlowerPower, I will review the contract over the weekend and post my impressions. I agree, it is hard to believe any competent attorney would drawn-up a contract enlisting to “forever bind” minor children to a venture.

Bell well,

Mjuls, Esq.

Additional question, would this put Katherine's guardianship of the kids to jeopardy, if kids ad litem sees her as unfit to look after the kids or something else perhaps?

I think it's time for the MJ Estate to shut down this circus, with prejudice. I no longer care whether Katherine Jackson is doing it for Joe or not. The fact is, she's doing it, and this isn't the first time she's made some kind of end run to participate in some kind of outside moneymaking proposition.

The fact that this deal purports to bind the children is the last straw. Legally, that's not possible, anyway, but if she would put her hand to such a "contract," she has lost my last shred of respect.

Again, the Estate needs to STOP THIS!!!

For the exception that she lost any shred of respect I COULD have had for her... some 20 yrs ago - I wholeheartedly agree with your post.

To: MARGARET LODISE = PPB's guardian ad litem

Throw in having Margaret Lodise replaced, while you're at it.

Thank you, much.

Maybe SOME day there will be something SURPRISING of the disgusting J Clan's demeanor, even actions, that TMZ will have to post up?

"How low, KJ and the clan can, and do, go?" more of a totally predictable bore, then anything else, and has been for a while now.

Wait... on second thought...

Ok. SOME times not so boring because I at least get a gut laugh out of "Oh yeah, she/he/they did!" - like this article did. It's either that or projectile vomiting and dry heaving. Enough of that from years past concerning JJ/KJ/Clan and their discpiclable behaviors surrounding MJ.

Glad that my ability to just let it go straight to my funny bone is well honed. Puking takes just to much energy, leaves me miserable and drained [Hint: NPD ppl like KJ/JJ like you better that way. "Ask, MJ." ;)], and quite frankly they don't deserve that much of MY energy spent on them - it's counterproductive to the energy it takes to research and find answers on the "justice" trail. No way are they worth anywhere near THAT. What is important is to recognize, for those that haven't (those that refuse to, I can't be bothered with) is the huge impact that these J Clan people's involvement HAVE directly in, and on, the cir***stances surrounding MJ's death.

Articles, such as this one, serve hugely worthy in exposing for the purpose of understanding exactly that.

G'Day, everyone.

I think its better that she run everything by the estate before she signs on the dotted line, especially when it pertains to the kids. I wish her well. Hope she got legal advice before signing all these do***ents. MJ forever in my heart.

Hi Daphne
I think so too, this is a bit too much!
I do wish that she stays as a guardian for kids but there is something seriously wrong if she goes on signing this sort of contract! Obviously she didn't have legal advisor, they would have told her it is not legal:-)

I don't much care what contracts Katherine signs as long as she takes care of the children, loves them, and protects them. Nothing she has done thus far leads me to believe that she will put the children in harms way or ever force them to do something they don't want to do. When she makes a move that I believe damanges the children, then I might change my mind. Until then, I think she (and the family as a whole for that matter) is doing a fine job with them. She has taken them in, gotten a grief counselor for them, protected them from the media (the only times they have appeared are at Michael's funeral, one time at the Grammy's to say something about their father, and the other day on Oprah with their cousins - all those appearances seem reasonable to me and not forced), encouraged them to get out and do "normal" things such as see movies, go on vacation, visit friends, take karate lessons, etc. She has also removed their masks, and encouraged and supported the decision of the two older ones to go to school outside the confines of Hayvenhurst. All of these decisions seem like smart, loving decisions to me. The children seem happy - as happy as they can be a year after losing their father. That's good enough for me.

Mr Baxter

Katherine is a huckster, trying to squeeze out every last penny for herself before she kicks the bucket. Katherine, you can't act like you're such a great woman and like you loved Michael so much when now you're pimping out his name and image like a 2 dolla ho.

Thanks for the insight Mjuls.

To most of us the amount of money Mrs. Jackson receives in a month seems like it would be more than enough to live off of and support MJ's kids. However, as seen on the Oprah interview, there a quite a few other family members living there and I am sure the adults contribute nothing to cover the extra monthly costs she has aquired because of this.

It is no wonder she is asking for more money and making all these "deals". Her sons should be ashamed of themselves.

A lot of Michael Jackson fan-clubs around the world have come together to ask the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music to remove from the forthcoming "Michael" album the tracks produced with or by the Cascio brothers.

The international Michael Jackson fan community strongly feel that a new Michael Jackson album should not include songs that they feel are not Michael's.
The overwhelming response that we, fan-clubs, have received from our members expressing doubts over the Cascio tracks should not be ignored.

Michael Jackson fans around the world ask that the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music respect our feelings and our expertise in this matter.
We are the future supporters of all the products that you will put out.
We ask that no doubt as to the origin of a song should ever surround the release of a Michael Jackson album.

The origin of the Cascio tracks is not clear enough for them to be included in this first new album since Michael Jackson's death.
Should you carry on with the release of the album as it stands, it would cast a shadow of doubt, discontent and frustration over any future release.

We know there are enough original unreleased songs to complete the album without the questionable ones.

Michael Jackson fans ask the estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music to take our claim into consideration and respect our strong opposition to the release of "Michael" as it currently stands.

We will do what we deem necessary to honor the memory and legacy of Michael Jackson.
