FBI's Cam Newton Probe Expands to Auburn Booster

11/17/2010 5:45 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The FBI investigation into the cash for Cam Newton scandal now involves a guy who gave more than $1 million to Auburn University ... and was recently arrested in a bribery sting.

Cam Newton Scandal Investigation
According to sources connected to the probe ... FBI agents looking into the Newton recruiting controversy are also asking about Milton McGregor -- a dog track owner arrested last month for allegedly bribing Alabama politicians to vote pro gambling.

We're told agents asked someone connected to the Newton case if he was familiar with McGregor or the bribery scandal.

It's unclear what, if any, direct connection McGregor has to Newton. Back in 2008, McGregor did donate a million bucks toward construction of a new arena at Auburn.

McGregor did not return a call for comment.

UPDATE 4:00PM PST: Milton McGregor's attorney tells TMZ his client has "never had any contact – direct or indirect – with Cam Newton, Cecil Newton, Cam’s father; Kenny Rogers or anyone purporting to represent Cam Newton."  He also says McGregor has never compensated student athletes at Auburn or any other school.

First of all I would like to respond to the comments that all AU fans have on "blinders"..I am an AU fan and I feel as if I look at this whole situation pretty fair & balanced. For starters, no..Alabama did not start this, MSU did..I for one have not heard anyone around me blaming Alabama for this whole ordeal..except for the Alabama fans who say that AU fans think they started it.
Do I think Cam Newton is innocent? Yes. Do I think Cecil Newton is innocent? Don't Know..haven't heard a single shred of actual solid evidence to make me think that he is not, but I guess time will tell on that one. Do I think AU paid Newton to play? No...and I say this (not as a blinded fan) but b/c not ONE single person in this entire story has ever pointed the finger at AU or claimed that AU made any type of payment to the Newton family.
I also find it odd that Cam was recruited by numerous schools (including Tennessee & Oklahoma State)..and both of the coaches from those universities said that they never experienced any suspicious or illegal talk during the recruiting of Cam Newton..AU has also said the same thing..isn't it funny that the ONLY school who's coming up w/all of this is MSU..honestly it just sounds as if they are a little jilted b/c they thought he had one foot in Starkville & was going to be their QB.
It's also an absolute joke that Bell, one of their key witnesses claims to have texts on his cell phone that include a payment plan for the Newton's..but then he proceeds to say that "unfortunately the phone that contains them received water damage and he no longer has access to them"...seriously?!?!
I just think that no one should believe any of this until they actually come out with solid evidence supporting these allegations.

kinda funny how Ms St makes all these allegations, but cant provide any proof. For Bell to say "Im working with my cell co. to get text message transcripts" is a downright LIE. it only takes a couple minutes to find out from your carrier they do not HAVE your text message transcripts cuz none of the providers keeps your text messages. They're never stored by the carrier, only forwarded from one phone to your phone. All they have is a text came from this number to that number. Isn't it funny how all of the activity is between Ms St boosters and former Ms St players??? HMMM....And why is the FBI invovlved? They dont enforce organizational (such as NCAA) rules. they enforce laws. So, lets consider what laws could have been broken in this.....Slander? Libel? Defamation of Character? BLACKMAIL?.........HMMMMMMMM.......Looks to me like Ms St is in a ton of trouble here

and anyone who wants proof that cell carriers do not ever have copies of your text messages, call your carrier and ask them to send you copies of your own. That in itself PROVES Bell is a LIAR, because he claims to "be working with his carrier to get copies of the text messages" since the old phone he had them on got damaged by water. His carrier would tell him immediately it's impossible, so there would be no "working with the carrier". All these allegations center around MSU boosters and former players, with unsubstantiated hearsay. Again, the FBI is involved, because a law or laws were broken. Taking money or asking for money to play football at a college is against rules, yes, but its NOT against any LAW. The FBI enforces laws, not organizational (such as NCAA) rules.....what laws have potential to be broken here? Slander? Libel? Defamation of character? BLACKMAIL???? HMMMMMMMM.........notice that the FBI is not questioning Newton, his mom, dad or Auburn, but people associated with Mississippi State? Is it not plain to see Miss. St. is who is under investigation here?

UAMomma ~ So what? Your child has better sense that you! That is all Barners care about. If they didn’t then they would not have to pay their players!! If you are questioning Bama football and their fans, then you are the really ignorant one. IF you went to school here like you claim then you would know how we are about our football. So, STFU, you are running your mouth about a cheating a$$ football team who can’t stay out of trouble long enough to even come close to winning a Championship. I hope Scam in playing when they come to T-Town, that way when they gets their a$$es handed to them, they will not have any excuse!!! Call someone trailer trash, yep that is exactly what Auburn fans are, the entire Lee County looks like a trailer park. Atleast, we have enough Pride and Faith in our team to give them a BEATIFUL campus and a beautiful town. Unlike, the freaking cow pastures that are knee deep in bull**** that lies around Auburn University……….ROLL TIDE ROLL

OH LORDY,LORDY..........THESE TIGER FANS ARE SO TESTY THESE DAYS.

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME WE'VE SEEN A TEAM'S FANS DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR UNDEFEATED SEASON BE SO ANGRY WITH EVERYONE?? WELL, FRANKLY I CAN'T REMEMBER. CHASTISING URBAN MEYER AND DAN MULLEN?? BUT I GUESS I;D BE ANGRY TOO IF MY TEAM'S QB WAS GOING TO BE DECLARED INELIGIBLE BY THE END OF THE SEASON, CRUSHING MY NATIONAL TITLE HOPES. AND I PROBABLY WOULD BE ANGRY IF MY TEAM WAS FACING POSSIBLE COMPLETE DISSOLUTION OF ALL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY. NO MORE TIGER BASKETBALL, NO MORE TIGER BASEBALL, AND NO MORE TIGER FOOTBALL.

MY QUESTION IS THOUGH, HOW IS IT GOING TO WORK WITH ONLY 11 TEAMS IN THE CONFERENCE??

@Bama Mom, comment 133: really? that's all you got? get off your high horse already. Your fear to losing to Auburn SHINES in your last post......What are you basing your conviction that Auburn is cheating on? Read the news woman, even Mississippi State's former player, Kenneth Rogers, who claimed to represent Newton and was who says he asked for $$$ from Mississippi St for Newton's signature said publicly that money was never discussed with or paid by Auburn thru his efforts. It's chicken sh*t pot stirring uninformed fans like you who make these rumors get blown out of proportion. Take your HATE for Auburn and put it to the side for a day, read the news, and you will SEE it's MS ST who is under investigation and in deep ****, not Auburn or Cam Newton. After you do that, watch your precious TIDE get walked on like a doormat by Auburn and the unstoppable Cam Newton, then go hold your stuffed Bama elephant and cry yourself to sleep, k?
