Howard Stern Ignites Sirius Subscription Mega-Surge

12/9/2010 3:55 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Howard Stern single-handedly boosted Sirius Satellite Radio sales "through the roof" this morning -- TMZ has learned the company was hit with a tidal wave of phone calls immediately following Stern's big announcement.

Minutes after Stern revealed his plans to stick with Sirius for another 5 years -- customer service reps tell us they were overwhelmed by calls from listeners who wanted to sign up for new accounts.

But get this -- we're told "hundreds" of callers were also interested in "re-activating" accounts that had been placed on hold due to the uncertainty of Stern's return.

All hail the king.

A tidal wave of calls but how many were positive. I called but I was angry that they were paying this idiot so much money. It would have been better to not sign him and return the savings to your customers.

Howard Rules! He IS the reason I pay for radio and he IS the reason millions of Sirius subscribers do as well. The rest of Sirius' content is mostly music which is easily and cheaply accessible everywhere you turn. Howard is a unique, smart, insightful, and yes often crude commentator on pop culture. In the entertainment world full of dull, self absorbed, unoriginal bores, Howard continues to be Radio Gold!

"hundreds" does pay his MILLION dollar salary. I have sirius and was hoping they didn't renew his contract so they could lower rates, but it look like a rate hike is coming!

Funny how the people who belittle Stern for being lowbrow and crude, post and go on a site who's sole purpose is to report celebrity scandel and smut.

Stern is far more than swearing and toliet humor. Its success is built on being truthful and sharing honest opinion. The show and its people are relatable and the material I think is smart. Who do you think is funnier? Name present comedy that is funny that doesn't use crude or risky material?

Listen to show before you post about it!

Stern is the ONLY reason to get Sirius. You haters are clueless. Have you ever given the show a shot? The interviews are fantastic. This Howard Stern is nothing like the Howard from the 80's and 90's. Give it a chance. The show is so entertaining I don't know what I would do driving around with no Howard in the morning. And a Baba Booey to y'all.

I have always liked him and respected his work, but some of it gets old, especially the same lame and annoying fans that call in and hang on his every word. A lot of the secondary characters on the show are annoying and played (i.e. Richard and Sal). How many prank phone calls can you do? Most of them stopped being funny years ago. The long vacations are hard to deal with too. With that said, I am glad he is staying.

Does that mean Bubba The Love Sponge show, which on Howard's channel will continue to be on as well?

I don't know anyone that has any interest in listening to Howard Stern on Sirius. I think its just a publicity stunt.

Stern haters, where is the book that you all get your same, tired lines from? "Howard who?" LOL! Did it take you all day to write that? And if he is so irrelevant, than why are you commenting on him? And why has his name been in at or near the top of Google Trends all day?

Obviously, There are a lot more people that listen to the Howard Stern show than hate him, not to mention the "closet" Stern listeners that dont admit listening to him.
The proof is in the numbers folks.
Howard tells it like it is with no B.S. Long live the king!
