Metrodome Roof

Collapses

Crazy Video!!!

12/12/2010 10:46 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis collapsed early this morning due to heavy snowfall -- and the video of it happening from inside the stadium is quite amazing to see.

Today's game between the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings had already been postponed when the collapse occurred.

Sunday morning, the NFL announced the game would be moved to Detroit and played on Monday.

There's no design flaw, just physics. Usually they have people shoveling snow off the Dome, but because this blizzard was so harsh and windy that became too dangerous. And the roof collapsed.... No big deal, all they have to do is shovel it off, sew up the tear, and re-inflate. It will be back to new in 4 or 5 days. That's all! :)

Careless...they should have lowered the Dome! I used to work at Syracuse University where they lowered the Dome when they knew it just wouldn't hold up under heavy snow conditions. Nice work facilities! LOL

PS...there is no fix to this roof...just a replacement. I would not want to be head of facilities, because he/she just made a $BIG$ mistake!

The truth- love the Hank the Basket Case reference.
The only reason I watch Kendra, the epic fail of Hank Baskett never disappoints.

They could of heated the roof,or sprayed it with some kind of silicone spray so the snow wouldn't take..

its a bubble on top like they use on soccer fields in winter. i doubt it would have held 8 inches of snow let allow 17. i applaud the vikings for postponing the game in the first place, the ciy of st paul needs those people off the streets so they can clean up. the only way to prevent any roof from collapsing with that much snow is to build it at an angle. walmart made the error and built a flat roof on our walmart and when we had 30+ inches of snow, they had to shut down for a week. and i wouldn't want to play outside let alone watch a game outside in 30+ below wind chills either.

The Detroit Vikings, interesting. Hey, there are a decent number of people of Scandinavian descent in Michigan also, so that kinda works. I heard the Lions' staff are actually redoing the end zones and putting up Vikings decorations/logos, etc. It'll be interesting to see who shows up and what the atmosphere is like.

Hello, I live in Detroit and they are giving away free tickets to the game. On the news it said that people got in line at 3 AM, ridiculous because it is only 5 degrees and during the night is was probably below 0. The roads are horrible too. People are driving 15 mph on the free way and the roads are completely ice.
