Chuck Berry Falls Ill During Concert

1/2/2011 11:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Chuck Berry had to be escorted off stage during a concert in Chicago last night -- but rather than jumping in an ambulance, he jumped back on stage.

Berry was playing a gig at the Concert Theater and, according to the Chicago Tribune, began showing signs something was wrong early on. The promoter of the event told the paper, "Obviously, something was off ... Fifteen minutes into the set it went from fine to something wasn't right. He was starting songs mid-song, playing 15 seconds of a song."

After several failed attempts at the guitar, Berry played keyboard -- then slumped over.

Berry (who is 84) was taken off stage but came back 15 minutes later and tried resuming the show ... but was taken off stage again. He returned one more time, assured fans he was OK (see video below), and did his signature duck walk before leaving for good.

Berry did not go to the hospital ... he took a limo home. That's how he rolls.

He started recording a year or two later, but these guys, Chuck Little Richard, Fats Domini was doing the music but not getting recorded well before the so-called King. They didn't borrow the music they created it so learn the truth about early Rock & Roll during this era. It's time to exit the stage GREAT CHUCK! 84, you have nothing else to prove.Louis Jordan was doing this stuff in the 1940's.

Every guitarist worth a short today owes CB debt of gratitude.
He not only brought the guitar out front like Les Paul, he wrote some pretty cool lyrics.

Chuck Berry owned the Southern Air restaurant in 1989. He admitted he put cameras in the female bathroom. He took videos of women urinated. He paid 1.3 million to make this go away. He had video of children. The old perv should have been arrested for child porn, and many other charges. The Sicko. I agree, he is the King of Pervs.

Amazing some people totally ignore how Chuck Berry used his restaurant to tape little girls and women using the bathroom. How sick is this guy? I guess since he can play his guitar, that illegally taping little girls in the toilet doesn't matter.

Are we sure he wasn't drunk??
I've seen Chuck Berry several times many years ago!! Two of those concerts he was so drunk he was falling off the stage and screwing up the songs!! One of those concerts was a special HBO event with Bo Diddley for half the show and Chuck Berry the second part. The back-up band had Ron Wood, Rudy Sarzo, Don Mayall and all sorts of R&R greats. When it was time for Chuck, he was over an hour late and stone ass drunk. He didn't complete any songs and on the 3rd song he basically fell off the stage and was gone. When HBO showed the concert, it was The Bo Diddley show, no mention of Chuck!!

revisionists abound. Amazing how time re-writes history. April, 1954..."That's Allright" Find one song written by any of these names that pre-date. Encyclopedia of Rock, by Rolling Stone puts that as the begginning. As John Lennon famously said "Before Elvis, there was nothing." You cannot change do***ented evidence. I am sure some dude invented the light bulb in his basement a hundred years before Edison... but without a patent or wide use, would anyone have known. Also, the Best of Berry's, Chuck's Greatest Hits put out in 1959, it has those classic two or three songs, the rest are instrumentals. Don't change history to what you want it to be. At the very least, use Wikipedia if you are too lazy to do proper research.

I saw him twice perform a mini concert many years ago. He was awesome and the crowd went crazy over his fancy footwork, or scoot as he calls it. I am amazed that he is still out performing.

There's no history revision going on here. Berry was playing in bands in his teens and 20's, when Elvis would have still been a child, and was very innovative in his guitar style(he was instrumental, along with others, in bringing the guitar to the forefront of popular music). He also was fusing rhythem & blues with country music before Elvis was recording.

Elvis may have recorded first, but Chuck Berry was playing and developing the style before Elvis. Face it, although Elvis is a legend, he was basically given a record deal as a way to have a "white guy" bring "black music" to the mainstream.

And as for Berry being a perv, yeah that may be true, but so was Michael Jackson and you can't deny the impact he had on music.

Okay on the pee pee not saying it is right but, didn't Elvis met Pricilla when she was a minor child. I don't hear no one saying that stuff about the so called King. And also stop re-writting history they were doing all of this stuff long before Elvis.
