Schick -- We're Cutting Our Ads from 'Skins'

1/24/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The exodus continues ... Schick has now pulled its commercials from the controversial MTV show, "Skins."

MTV Skins Controversy

A rep for the company tells TMZ, "After 'Skins' on MTV aired last week, the makers of Schick Hydro decided not to advertise during the program because some of this show’s content is not aligned with Schick corporate guidelines."

So that makes Schick, Subway, H&R Block, Taco Bell, Wrigley and GM to pull its ads from the show.

UPDATE: A rep for MTV tells TMZ, "'Skins' has earned the loyalty of fans across the globe for its thoughtful and honest portrayal of teen life today. An internationally acclaimed scripted drama, the show has been honored with a long list of prestigious awards. MTV stands by the US adaptation of 'Skins' and the vision of its creator Bryan Elsley."

I'm not saying that all teens are doing this but some kids are going to experiment with sex, drugs etc..

I have taught in high schools for 31 years, this type of information is enlightening to everybody (even the ultra-conservative bible bangers who oppose it). They would like the world to return to the times of the Puritans, that would make their cult-like followers very happy.

Okay maikel, first of all you're an id!ot! Second, I'm not sure what planet you are from, but since when is allowing under age kids to act in a soft porn setting ok? That is the real issue that these companies have, and rightly so. Just because SOME kids act this way in real life does not mean its okay to teach all other kids that this type of behavior is "normal". I'm glad these companies are taking a stand to protect underage kids and caring about their customers opinions.

ketjo, I like your positive post. However, "sports" can be just as (or perhaps even more) detrimental to the health of teens than some foul mouthed trashy TV show can(and I don't just mean physically). For example, in football, some kids are abused by crazy coaches both mentally and physically. And because they don't want to appear to be a pu*SY, they might play through a serous injury which ends up crippling them for life (all for the good of the team of course!).

Furthermore, sports in general, is only there for the same reasons that religion is, human mind control. It's a complete and absolute power over all of us by the self proclaimed illuminated ones. And how can man stop these crooked international bankers, who are running our beautiful country (and world) into the ground of corporate slavery, when we are all too busy watching baseball, football, and basketball? How can the women do anything when they're consumed by soaps operas and celebrity gossip?

Sure, sports, celeb gossip, and TV can all be fun, but you have to stay in touch with what's real. But, before you can do that, you have to know what's real! And, no offense, but like nearly everyone else here, you don't!

But there's hope for you. You should start by getting your news from alternative sources and not taking seriously any news you may hear from mainstream sources.

Good Luck!

Funny how companies removed their Ads from Jersey Shore and look how big it became. These are real situations that go on nowadays. Parents just dont want to believe it.

WHY is it someone/anyone, even the teen themselves, can post a nude or provocative pic or video and be arrested.....but this show is allowed to air on a cable network for all to see?? I think the execs and producers should all be arrested and put on pedophile watch!

I don't see what the big deal is, like others have said. Everyone is making such a big deal out of this show..the first episode wasn't that bad and I've seen worse happen on an episode of Jersey Shore..or teen mom..The drug use might be a little over the top but the sex isn't anything new that is out there..look at 90210 and Gossip Girl, Secret Life of an American Teenager, Pretty Little Liars..all of these have a large amount of sex in the show. But you don't see advertiser pulling their ad from the lineup..

COURTNEY, OF COURSE YOU DO NOT SEE THE BIG DEAL THAT IS WHY YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEGALLY SMOKE, DRINK, OR LIVE ON YOUR OWN. IF YOUR PARENTS LET YOU WATCH THE SHOW THEN SHAME ON THEM, IF YOU ACT THAT WAY (Skins) SHAME ON YOU. Go get A's on the report card and enjoy life, there is a beautiful world out there that has nothing to do with sex as a teen & drug use (I promise).

I don't know ANY teens that behave this way. Most parents still actually raise their kids right. It's just MTV cashing in on using sex, booze, and drugs to sell ratings. What's new.

I watched the show. Didn't see what the big deal was - got a little bored actually. I kept thinking that I hope it gets better as the season progresses.

I didn't find it as jaw dropping as Jersey Shore. Jersey Shore degrades women way more than Skins will, I'm sure.

I don't think it's a show for kids but that's why parents have mouths and hopefully a brain. Talk to your kids and don't let the TV raise them.

Why pass so much judgement based on 1 episode? If you think the watered down American version is bad, watch the original BBC version. If you really think this show is depicting teenagers as "drug addicts" "wanna be rock stars" "sex addicts", you're missing the point. Watch more episodes or go on netflix and watch the bbc version, then you'll understand what this show is all about.

"thoughtful and honest portrayal of teen life today", Its not fair to say all teens have sex and do drugs. If they want to be honest than they would have a show that also portrays the good teens as well as the troubled. Plus the concept as taken from a British show so it was written about British teens, How is that an accurate portrayal of American teens?
