'Golden Voice' Ted Williams Bails on Rehab

1/24/2011 5:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Ted Williams -- the homeless man with the "Golden Voice" -- has left rehab against medical advice, less than two weeks after checking in for drug and alcohol dependency ... TMZ has learned.

Ted Williams Rehab

Our sources say Ted -- who decided to go to rehab earlier this month after a taping of the Dr. Phil show -- left the Origins Recovery Center in South Texas moments ago and is on his way to the airport.

Ted's girlfriend is currently in rehab at the Safe Harbor facility in Costa Mesa, California.

Life long street addict. Isn't gonna change overnight. Too bad he's blowing such a unique opportunity.

Such a terrific story about a wonderful talent.

Ted blew his chance to ever use his again in a big way, because no company wants to hire someone who is so undependable and unpredictable. I know of one company in particular that was in talks for several national spots would mean hundreds of thousands, but now will not work with him.

Well Dr. Phil and Kraft Mac&Cheese gave him more money to buy his drugs only this time he won't be homeless.

So unfortunate. I was encouraged with each day he was there, but it was like walking a tight rope. Kicking after 30 years of alcoholism and 20 some odd years of crack addiction is no easy task. Well at least he had a clean place to sleep and bath for a few weeks. That had to be special for him.

Simple, Once a addict always a addict, always some sort of BS. Someone came along and gave this guy a Once in a lifetime lottery type winning (considering the situation) I am so not surprised.

Ted went from homeless to a chance of a lifetime opportunity in what...1 day....and it's probably to much too soon for him. He's been on TV shows, on radio shows, met his family he left behind and that didn't turn out too well and I'm sure he's been paid up front for a lot of things. I read where he was sent to dentist to get his teeth fixed but he walked out on the dentist for no reason, now he left rehab.

Things are probably happening too fast for him and he's scared. Hope he can get it together.

This guy is just like my brother. You basically hand him a new and better life and they always go back to the same old ways. He won't change until HE decides, and he has made his decision. Sad, but predictible. Too bad there are millions of others who would have been more appreciative of what he just blew. And all those kids he has....geeze. Guess his Momma was right.

Addiction is powerful, but can be overcome. Obviously he isn't ready to quit, so leave him be. Give the mortgage & job to someone that actually wants it & let him go back to the bottle or whatever his drug of choice was.

I think this was all too much too soon. Hope he can find his way to sobriety sooner than later.

Drug addicts are liars. They are good at it. It's how they survive. Usually you don't even realize that what they've said doesn't make any sense until long after they've said it. Since they put this guy on the news, it was obvious that he was not "clean" for two years, or two hours. (or he would not be on the streets). His "voice" is great, however, that does not make him more special than anyone else that's lost their ability to live in a home, because of drugs. When he finally admitted that he had been using, and did not want to go to rehab right away....ummm...who are these people who claim to be professionals? Did they really think he "just now" slipped and relapsed? He was never sober in the first place. I should be in Dr. Phil or Dr. Stupid from celeb rehab's place. And I'm not licensed, except to drive a car! haha! What the media has created, they could have done with anyone who lives on the streets. What a waste of MONEY, and "celebrity?????". Now old Ted will have money for his habit for a while. And that's all he cares about anyway. Mission accomplished. He's well tuned his "scamming skills". His girlfriend? will bolt next, and they won't be reunited, because they don't have a pot to pi ss in, and/or care about each other. They just want the next hit on that crack pipe. I am telling it like it IS. Oprah is counting her blessings for not having him on her show....and don't believe for a moment that it was because she "couldn't get him". It was because she's been "had" before (the book guy), and wasn't about to take that b.s. again....especially when she's starting a new venture.
