'Idol' Waitress Loses Job After 'A.I.' Audition

1/25/2011 11:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The "American Idol" wannabe who was introduced on "A.I." as a singing waitress at a New York diner was "let go" from her gig at the eatery after the show got in the way of her work schedule ... TMZ has learned.

0124_Devon_Rush_ex

When Devyn Rush got her golden ticket to Hollywood, sources close to the singer tell us she informed her bosses at Ellen's Stardust Diner in NYC about her trip and expected to have a job when she returned.

But, we're told, when Rush got back and asked about her schedule, she was informed that her services would no longer be needed.

012411_devyn_rush_audition_foxStaff members at Ellen's tell us they simply couldn't hold Devyn's position because the Hollywood trip happened to line up in the midst of the diner's "busy season" ... and they needed to fill the spot.

A rep for the diner tells us the issue is still in "limbo" -- and both sides are trying to reach an amicable resolution.

Restaurants usually treat waitresses like crap anyway. Under minimum wage, no benefits unless its a corporation. Its ahard job with no respect from anyone. Very physical and mentally demanding.

If she feels that she's good enough to audition, AND got a ticket to Hollywood, then why would she expect to have a waitress job waiting for her? And I'm sure there are other restaurants in the area if she doesn't win. That's ridiculous. Of course they are going to let her go....she'll be away for a long time. So what? Either she didn't expect to be chosen, or she doesn't care that she was let go from her job. I'm guessing the ticket to Hollywood wins. Duh.

this restaurant banks on the talent of its singing waitstaff, which it only pays 2.50 an hour for, the rest is in tips. the servers spend tons of money on classes etc. which help them try to get good enough to make it as a singer or actor, which, talented or not, is near impossible. expecting to have a job when back from a free ad opportunity the cheap owners of this establishment have gotten out of this poised, talented, lovely young girl would hardly seem outlandish, yet the comments of these bitter, sad, mean spirited people never cease to amaze, disappoint, and anger me. "quasi-talented face"? really? 15 minutes of fame? so clearly disenchanted with your own unsatisfied lives... take a look at those lives and see what you've done with them, before they've passed you by.

Well, maybe they figured that should she win, she was going to quit anyway, so why postpone the inevitable?

I hope she goes and gets famous with A Singing Career then go back bye the dinner and fire the boss oh yah. You got to give her some kind of credit of going after her dream.I wish her all the luck in the world.

Bull****. She even plugged the restaurant on national freakin' television. If that horse's butt ends up firing her, I hope she kicks him in his sack.

We all need to make sacrifices as we pursue our dreams. If it is worth having, then it is worth taking a risk to achieve it.
