'Jersey Shore' Italy Trip --

Italian Group FURIOUS!

1/25/2011 3:20 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The "Jersey Shore" road trip to Italy will only serve to make the locals look like "buffoons and bimbos" ... this according to a very pissed off Italian-American organization.

TMZ spoke to a rep for UNICO -- a massive Italian American interest group -- who tells us they're furious with MTV's decision to shoot Season 4 in the old country ... saying, "People used to go to the circus to see the freak show – that is what this will be."

The rep adds, "It will not only hurt Italians but all Americans … their outrageous, reprehensible behavior will make us look like buffoons and bimbos."

As TMZ first reported, UNICO was the first group to call for a boycott of the show -- claiming it's a "denigration" of Italian Americans.

Just one question. Why do "American Latinos" like to pretend they are Italian? Kind of weird, no? Snookie chilean, JWow Irish/Spanish mix, Ronnie Puerto Rican, the 2 old men half Spanish....

They should shoot next season in Chica Chilean's homeland - maybe the can use the recently shut down Chilean coal mine. Now that would be entertaining lol.

I completely agree with the UNICO group's assessment of the Jersey Shore. Even if many of the ... people? Characters?... on the show are not actually of Italian descent, the show and these people's behavior is strongly associated with Italians ("guidos") and it does negatively characterize a whole ethnicity (alongside other shows that contribute to the stereotype too). There is absolutely no reason for these fools to go to Italy. I've spent a lot of time in Italy, and the places they are visiting get A LOT of tourism as it is; they don't need "help" from Snooki and her idiot friends. Also, as a respectful American traveler, I have never encountered any real anti-American sentiment (in Italy or anywhere else I've been, including Turkey, the West Bank, Jordan) and I think the 'People hate Americans' thing is a little overstated, at least in my experience, but I do agree that the locals in Florence, Italy *HATE* all the gettin' drunk a lot of tourists do in their city and yes, many of the people gettin' drunk in Florence are Americans. So... yeah.
