Charlie Sheen

Checks into Rehab

1/28/2011 7:54 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Charlie Sheen voluntarily checked himself in to an undisclosed rehab facility earlier today ... and his show "Two and a Half Men" has been placed on indefinite "hiatus" while he undergoes treatment.

"Two and a Half Men" producers released a statement saying, "Due to Charlie Sheen’s decision to enter a rehabilitation center, CBS, Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre are placing “Two and a Half Men” on production hiatus."

The statement continues, "We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision."

Sheen's publicist tells us, "He is most grateful to all who have expressed their concern."

As TMZ previously reported, Sheen had a briefcase of cocaine delivered to his mansion during a 36-hour bender earlier this week ... and was hospitalized early Thursday morning for a hiatal hernia.

Rehab for treatment of a hernia, eh? Wouldn't be be my first choice for a treatment facility, but then again I'm not a drug addict with a publicist.

My husband and I love this show. For us, it has always been "appointment television". My husband will even watch the reruns on another channel. Having said that, has anyone really watched it lately? We are uncomfortable with the predictable hooker storyline. We find ourselves less engaged with the "Charlie" character, and more waiting for the appearances of "Alan", "Jake", and "Eldrich". The last show with Alan coping with the boy's antics, including the soda volcano, and the shopping cart on the roof were classic comedy. Charlie's scenes, even with Rose, a favorite, were uncomfortable to watch, lacked humor, and did not seem to be a cohesive part of the storyline. So, the powers to be, how about this: put television Charlie on vacation, unable to bear not being with Rose (while real Charlie really works on sobriety), amp up the characters of Alan and the boys, and let them do what they do best - light hearted, relatable comedy. Bring Herb back, and maybe Judd Nelson. More of Mom and Berta. Put the family back in the show. Let Charlie heal. Let all of the people who work on this show receive a paycheck. Does everyone get a check when something like this happens? What happens to the lowliest grip? He still has a mortgage. Save the show, send it in a new direction, focus on the 1 and 1/2 men still available, and go forward. Charlie Sheen will or will not get sober. That choice is in his hands. The captain goes down with the ship. If he won't save himself, push him off. Save the ship and the passengers. Just our opinions, but it is hardly fair to affect the financial livelihood of people dependent on this man for their survival. Also time to return the show to light hearted humor status - hooker storyline old, predictable and uncomforable in light of real time parallel. Charlie Sheen, I hope you recover your health and live for many more years, drug and alcohol free. There are people who love you, and an entire audience of people who enjoy your work. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Madam Obvious

The person that denies drug addiction is a disease and suggests it is some sort of choice is scary stupid.

They've obviously NEVER been addicted to a drug or alcohol. Once you are, there is no controling it. This has been proven by scientific evidence. You'd have to live under a rock not to know that.

JLS, if drug and alcohol addicts chose not to drink or take drugs in excess in the first place, they would not get addicted. Taking drugs and/or drinking too much is a completely voluntary act. Nobody is forced into these actions. Ergo, the addict has CHOSEN their path in life. Understand? They chose to disregard societal disapproval, health issues, the angst and upset of their loved ones, etc, to continue to get high or drunk. Bottom line, the addict CHOOSES their addiction. It is not an illness. To call it a disease or an illness is pseudo scientific. Bollocks to that nonsensical myth. I had a family member who was a drunken stoner of many decades standing. He resisted every last effort we made to help him out as he loved being stoned and drunk, loved the people he consorted with and the drunken stoner lifestyle. He is now dead - lung cancer and cirrhosis of the liver sent him on a one-way to eternity at age 47.

If Charlie is serious?? 30 days isn't going to do it He has
drinking problems, drug problems, and sex addictions. He'll need at least 6 months and then some new friends - not hookers.

Grandma of Four

A BRIEFCASE full of cocaine!? I am confused! Isn't it against the law to possess cocaine and you have to wonder who his suppliers are? WHERE is the law on this one??? Good thing he is RICH! This is going to cause his children untold hours of therapy in their future! AND....CBS....THE SPONSERS....not to mention all the other folks that depend on him! Can't even imagine what how they are al feeling! Will folks get PAID while he sits in rehab making an effort to pull himself back together! Head Shaker all around!

Glad to hear he's in rehab....having said that I hope he stays the duration of his treatment and doesn't decide to leave 'because he might feel cured' after a few days treatment.

Sallycat22 - I've seen no mention of charges. It is legal to have a suitcase of coke?

Yes it is legal for certain people. Furthermore the studios and their lawyers have Charlie Beck et al in their back pockets ... you will never see any charges.

If Charlie Sheen was named Todd Bridges, Rick James, or Tyrone Jackson that would be a different story ... Charlie is gonna walk.

The forgiveness of the industry is dependent on WHO you are. Even though Charlie is 45, he is still seen as a "good kid".
